Amy Poehler radiated retro charm in a black-and-white shirt dress as she was honored with the Vanguard Award at the recently concluded 2024 CinemaCon Big Screen Achievement Awards held at Omnia nightclub inside Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
I’ve always been fascinated by Poehler’s red carpet style, which is often a playful mix of fun and sophistication. This holds true for her most recent red carpet outing.
Poehler was among the A-list stars recognized at the event. Other honorees included Lupita Nyong’o, who took home the CinemaCon Star of the Year Award, and Geena Davis, who received the Viola Davis Trailblazer Award. The two women looked stunning in their floor-length gowns, but Poehler’s understated yet sophisticated black-and-white outfit caught my attention more.

Dressed modestly with a hint of nostalgic elegance, Amy Poehler looked like a 1950s American housewife hanging out with her friends at a local diner.
Vintage Appeal: Embracing the Classics
I love the timeless monochromatic black-and-white combination of the midi-length dress. It’s predominantly black and has a structured white collar and sleeve trims, which, I think, add to its vintage appearance.
Although the design is pretty basic, the center front features light-catching crystal-adorned buttons that give it a striking finish. Amy kept the dress buttoned up to the top, enhancing the modest look.
I like how the form-fitting silhouette flatters Amy’s feminine curves, which are further accentuated with a crystal-buckled belt at the waist. It fits snugly at the bodice and around the hips and slightly flares at the hem.

I think it’s obvious that I adore all things vintage. Although some of you might find it uninteresting, I’m a sucker for retro clothing that tells a story, and Poehler’s dress is no different.
Accessorizing the Look: Simple Yet Elegant
Poehler, one of the wealthiest female comedians, kept the rest of her ensemble simple. She accessorized her outfit with a simple set of diamond stud earrings. It seemed a little underwhelming; I thought adding a couple of rings wouldn’t hurt. But considering the embellishments on her dress, I can see what she’s trying to achieve.
As for her beauty look, Amy wore her blonde bob in waves with a middle parting and highlighted her eyes with soft, smokey-smudged eyeliner. Her mauve lipstick and subtle blush completed her glam.

Modern Twists: Footwear That Stands Out
The Inside Out voice actress counterbalanced the dress’ vintage design with a pair of Saint Laurent “Disco” mules, adding a contemporary twist to the ensemble.
While I’m not a fan of PVC shoes as they tend to become uncomfortable, I must admit that these Saint Laurent heels are sleek and stylish. They have PVC-backed fishnet uppers embellished with crystals that sparkle from every angle, hence their name.
Amy’s metallic pedicure is displayed through the almond peep toes, and her short 5’2” height is accentuated with the mules’ 4-inch square-shaped stiletto heels. These Saint Laurent mules are available in limited sizes at Farfetch, retailing for $1,195.
