Do you agree that Clueless is the most iconic movie of the ’90s?
In addition to coining the immortalized expressions “as if!” and “whatever!”, the 1995 American coming-of-age romantic comedy film showed another side to ’90s fashion that people who aren’t that into grunge and hip-hop style instantly warmed up to.

Enter the preppy and classy world of Cher Horowitz and her posse. These girls made tartan-print, slinky slip dresses, French-style berets, and knee-high socks look downright fashionable (and wearable!). Clueless changed our perception of school fashion (and fashion in general).

The A/W 2013 runways also showed more than a hint of Clueless inspiration. This is why, for our back-to-school post, we show some skirts heavily inspired by this all-time favorite chick flick.
1. Alice + Olivia Box Pleat Skirt, $279.00
Skirt suits. In plaid print. No better ensemble will remind you of Clueless than the classic pleated skirts with matching blazers.
In the movie, Cher wears this in numerous colors. I personally love her yellow-and-white and black-and-red skirt suit combo. Wear this with knee-high socks and a pair of Mary Jane flats.
2. T by Alexander Wang Lightweight Leather Miniskirt, $595.00
Dionne Davenport (Stacey Dash) has a grunge-preppy style. She has no qualms wearing tight pleather pencil skirts and a pleather jacket with bright cropped tops. Cap off this ensemble with high boots.

Circle skirts are also quite the thing in this movie. Wear it with a plain tank top and a cute cropped cardigan (preferably with a furry cuff, just like the periwinkle one Cher wore in the movie).

Button skirts are also a staple. It is best worn with a long-sleeved top and preppy vest. Of course, wear knee-high socks and a pair of oxfords.
5. Opening Ceremony Chevy Miniskirt, $359.00
In the movie’s promo poster, you can see Tai (Brittany Murphy) wearing a black pencil skirt with a cropped jacket, a tee, high socks, and Mary Janes. Recreate the look with this skirt. Wear it with a tight sweater instead, and finish the look with high socks and Mary Jane flats.
Clueless once taught us that style is eternal. So use these skirts to embrace your style and make no excuses for it. Embrace change like Tai, always be classy like Cher, and occasionally add quirky pieces like Dionne.
