“Slumdog Millionaire” co-stars Dev Patel and Freida Pinto began dating in 2009 after falling in love during the making of the 2009 Oscar winner for best picture.
“We’re soulmates because we’re both in this surreal situation. She is very beautiful… I haven’t got a girlfriend but Freida, my co-star, is gorgeous,” Dev told Hindustan Times before they officially started dating.

“There’s no romance. I’ve never had a girlfriend. I’ve always been focused on acting. But for now, I’m having the time of my life,” the English actor added.
“My mom was like, ‘Well, he’s six years younger than you are.’ I said, ‘I know. I don’t know how it happened,’” Freida told Interview Magazine in July 2011 about dating someone much younger. “But she met him and it all worked out.”
“My family, they’re very supportive of everything I do and they want me to do whatever I want to do… If I do get married one fine day, which I know I will, they’ll be happy for me. There’s no pressure,” she told television host Jay Leno in an interview the same month.

Are the stars of Slumdog Millionaire still together?
No, unfortunately not. The British-Indian couple announced in December 2014 that they had split after nearly six years of dating. According to Pinto, the breakup was just about self-care and not because she didn’t love Patel.
“For me, it started at the age of 28, 29. Maybe it’s the body. Maybe it’s something about moving into womanhood from being a girl. You start asking, ‘What do I really want?’”
“You can be with someone and it can be really good for your growth. That’s what Dev was for me. The seven years I was with him were so impactful. But I ended up being single when I started thinking about these other things,” she told Daily Mail about the quarter-life crisis that caused them to split.
“Oh, she’s great. She’s awesome, dude. She has been one of the most impactful people in my life. We shared a very beautiful experience together not only cinematically but personally, so I’ll always have great respect for her,” Dev told The Times Weekend magazine in April 2016.
