In late 2022, Gabrielle Union arrived in New York City to discuss a role that sat in stark opposition to her personal life.

Known for her public advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights and her support of her transgender daughter, Zaya, Union took a sharp creative turn in the A24 drama The Inspection.

In the film—inspired by the life of director Elegance Bratton—Union portrays Inez French, a religious prison guard who disowns her son after he comes out as gay. The performance required Union to distance herself from her own parenting philosophy to find the humanity in a character defined by rejection.

The role arrived at a time when her own blended family was often in the public eye. Together with her husband, Dwyane Wade, she shares their daughter, Kaavia, and Wade’s children from previous relationships: Zaire, Zaya, and Xavier.

Understated Neutrals: Gabrielle Union Elevates Rosetta Getty Layers With Bared Footwear “Godwit” Sandals

For her interview, the Bring It On actress opted for a neutral ensemble composed of a coat and a maxi skirt, curated by stylist Thomas Christos Kikis.

She wore an off-white textured mock-neck top and a matching maxi skirt by Rosetta Getty underneath a double-breasted, cream-colored coat by Sportmax. The pure virgin wool “Tresa” coat features pointed lapels, patch pockets, and a self-tie waist.

The 10 Things I Hate About You actress wore her raven tresses in a top knot, with loose fringes framing her face. She then highlighted her eyes with subtle smoky eyeshadow and mascara, adding a hint of blush and nude lipstick.

Union skipped wearing elaborate jewelry and rounded out her ensemble with strappy sandals by Bared Footwear.

She finished the look with Bared Footwear’s “Godwit” sandals, designed with adjustable ankle straps, open toes, and sleek asymmetrical bands set on a wearable 3.2-inch heel.

True to the brand’s focus on comfort, the pair features a supportive, biomechanical footbed with a leather sole and rubber grip, blending polished minimalism with all-day ease.

Monochrome Power Dressing: Gabrielle Union Stuns in Red With Pointed Suede Pumps on The View

Later that same day, the Cheaper By the Dozen star visited The View to discuss The Inspection. For the show, she traded her neutral ensemble for a showstopping red outfit from her collaborative collection with NY & Company.

She wore the “Myah” shirtdress in campfire red, which features front buttons, a high-low silhouette, and frills and ruffles cascading from the neckline to the hem.

Showing a glimpse of her belly button, Gabrielle teamed the shirtdress with the “Parker” high-waisted wide-leg trousers from the same collection.

Gabrielle wore the same beauty look and rounded out her monochrome outfit with pointy red suede heels.
