In response to a mention of her height as 5 feet 3 inches on Twitter, she humorously acknowledged her true height as 5 feet 2 inches and proudly identified herself as a member of the short club.

This places her slightly below the average height for American women, around 5 feet 4 inches (162.6 centimeters).

In an interview with Parade, Kate said she wished to remain short because she aspired to be on Broadway. She mentioned that she hasn’t grown taller since and humorously suggested that her passion for Broadway might be responsible for her short height.

I started when I was 9 doing community theater near Bedford, New York, where we lived. I was in the Sound of Music. I did it again years later. And then when I was 14 I was almost in the Broadway musical. My mother says that was really my first heartbreak. It was my dream to be in a Broadway show. And I came very, very close to getting the role of Louisa, the second-oldest girl in the massive von Trapp family. At the end of the day they said the reason they couldn’t hire me was that I was too close in height to the girl playing Liesl, the older sister. From that day on I prayed that I wouldn’t grow. I just wanted to be short so I could be on Broadway. I have actually not grown since. So my mother blames my five-foot-two height on my passion for being on Broadway.

Kate Mara humorously noted that her husband appreciates her height because it makes him appear taller when they are together.

It is good in Hollywood to be relatively short. Because literally every actor is tall compared to you. So there is never the problem of “we need someone who is shorter than him.” Also, my husband is very happy about my height because I make him look very tall.

Kate Mara’s Stunning Jason Wu Dress and Brian Atwood T-Strap Sandals at ‘Deadfall’ Premiere

While Rooney Mara is all gothic punk and tough chick in leather (thanks to her stint in Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), her sister, Kate Mara, is quite the opposite—sweet, feminine, and rather intriguing.

In November 2012, Kate was spotted looking stunning in chartreuse and black at the Hollywood premiere of ‘Deadfall’.

Her outfit, a gorgeous mix of lace and chiffon by Jason Wu, was spot-on, and the accessories she chose were perfect—a Jason Wu clutch and a pair of sexy T-strap sandals by Brian Atwood that were hard to ignore.

Smoky eyes finished the ensemble, and she had never looked better.

A striking choice—she skips classic pumps for T-strap sandals, adding sharper lines and a touch of drama.

Why Petite Celebrities Around 5’2″ Master the Art of Shoe Proportion

As this concludes our look at Kate Mara’s style, her approach to footwear sits within a wider, well-honed playbook embraced by other petite celebrities. At around 5’2″, the goal is rarely about height alone—it’s about proportion.

Sleek pointed-toe pumps sharpen the line of the leg, barely-there sandals like the Stuart Weitzman “Nudist” keep the foot visually light, and tonal styling avoids harsh breaks that can shorten the silhouette. Whether it’s a red-carpet gown or an off-duty mini, these subtle choices consistently create a longer, cleaner finish.
