On the photocall for the Berlin International Film Festival 2023, Kristen Stewart made quite the statement with her bold, punk-inspired outfit.

As the presiding judge of the festival’s international jury, the Twilight actress knew she had to bring her A-game to the opening press conference, and she exceeded expectations.

When she stepped at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Berlin on Thursday, Kristen Stewart appeared to be precisely the boss owing to her Chanel ensemble.

The 32-year-old actress wore a Virginie Viard creation from the pre-fall 2023 collection of her favorite French luxury fashion house, featuring the brand’s signature tweed fabric.

Her outfit boasted a unique pattern of woven stripes in bold shades of red, orange, cream, marigold, and black, perfectly reflecting Stewart’s outspoken personality.

To balance the enormous quantity of color supplied by the collarless jacket and flared slacks, the Panic Room actress and her stylist, Tara Swennen, kept the accessories minimal, opting for a delicate pearl pendant on a chain around her neck.

Stewart’s menswear-inspired outfit was anchored with a pair of platform shoes, complete with a thick white sole that occasionally peeped out from under the actress’s trouser hems, hinting at her unique sense of style.

Her hair was styled in a messy mullet, perfectly complementing her punk-inspired attire. With no noticeable makeup, Stewart’s natural beauty shone through, enhancing the effortless appeal of her look.

While the outfit was undoubtedly bold, it could have been even more daring. The ensemble was displayed in December on the show with a vest and belt constructed of gold jewelry, coins, and other repurposed artifacts, which would have taken her punk-inspired look to the next level.

Stewart could have easily pulled off this style, and the edginess of the accents would have been an excellent complement to her otherwise classic ensemble. However, the vest was apparently too flashy for her role as president of the festival’s jury.

At the Berlin Film Festival’s opening press conference, Kristen Stewart admitted that she was feeling the total weight of the responsibilities of her position as this year’s Berlinale jury president.

The actress said, according to Deadline, “In full transparency, I’m kind of shaking. It’s not a weight that I don’t fully understand and feel, not buckling under, but I’m bolstered by a really beautiful, talented jury.”

Stewart added, “I can’t wait to see who we all are at the end of this experience. It’s kind of what you want a festival to do cumulatively. I’m ready to be changed by all the films and changed by the people around us. I think that’s why we’re here.”

Golshifteh Farahani, an Iranian-French actress; Valeska Griseback, a German director; Radu Jude, a Romanian director; Francine Maisler, a US casting director and producer; Carla Simon, a Spanish director, and Johnnie To, a legendary Hong Kong director, and producer, were among the festival’s jury members that joined Stewart on stage.

The jury’s president was probed on the qualities she searches for in a winning film. Under her jury’s watch, the field appears to be wide open, according to her response.

Stewart said, “It’s an interesting thing to be, quote-unquote, ‘in charge’ of deciding what the best film is. It’s such an ephemeral notion. It’s quite obviously something that’s quite subjective. We could find we absolutely hate a film, but that the accomplishment is staggering. And the feat of it, the ambition was accomplished.”

The actress elaborated, “Whether you like it or not, this festival in particular, historically is, in a positive way, confrontational and political. And I think that it’s very important for us to deprogram and be fully open to newness. I think that the diversity and the breadth of perspective is going to provide us with some new material that might be challenging and strange to adapt to, but I think the point is to pick the one that jumps out.”
