On June 25, 2011, in Toronto, and again on January 20, 2016, in West Hollywood, Priyanka Chopra delivered two distinct red-carpet moments that highlight her evolving style—moving from traditional Indian elegance to sculptural, modern eveningwear anchored by statement heels.

In June 2011, Priyanka Chopra wore a saree by Indian fashion designer Manish Malhotra to the 12th International Indian Film Academy Awards in Toronto.

Honored with the Green Globe Award at the International Indian Film Academy ceremony, she styled a white lehenga with a blue velvet choli.

She also performed to pay tribute to Indian playback singer and entrepreneur Asha Bhosle.

In an interview with InStyle in June 2019, Chopra talked about her love for the popular garment from the Indian subcontinent.

“Saris are my favorite,” she said. “My problem is when it comes to Indian fashion, there are always these shiny, sequined, over-the-top Christmas-tree outfits. Those are not the saris I wear. I grew up with my mother wearing saris to the hospital as a doctor. She’d wear these beautiful ones made of French chiffon, with a bindi (a colored dot worn on the center of the forehead) over here,” Chopra added while pointing to her forehead.

“And the nape of her neck would smell like Dior’s Poison. That, to me, was a modern woman. And that’s what I want to show the world. Indian designers make such incredible clothes that are inspired by beautiful embroidery and patterns.”

By 2016, Chopra’s style had undergone a definitive shift. As she transitioned from Bollywood royalty to a global household name following the success of Quantico, her red-carpet choices moved away from traditional silhouettes toward avant-garde, structural pieces that showcased a sharper, more Western-leaning edge.
