Black Widow’s 5-Minute Screen Time in Avengers: Infinity War Earned Scarlett Johansson $15 Million

Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) had just 5 minutes of screen time in the 2018 American superhero film Avengers: Infinity War, making her the 17th most screened character.

Scarlett Johansson’s introduction as Natasha Romanoff, also known as Black Widow, in the 2010 film Iron Man 2, earned her a paycheck of $400,000. However, her earnings took a significant leap when she reprised the role in The Avengers, where she made somewhere in the low seven figures.

As her prominence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe grew, Scarlett’s value rose even higher in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where she received a salary of $20 million.

For her appearances in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Scarlett Johansson received an upfront payment of $15 million.

But, when accounting for bonuses and additional earnings, she reportedly made around $35 million for her involvement in the final Avengers film.

Despite some audiences expressing a desire for a more in-depth exploration of Black Widow’s MCU backstory, Johansson was well-compensated for her dedicated efforts by Marvel Studios.

In the sequel to The Avengers (2012) and Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), the screen time for each major character varies, with Thanos (played by Josh Brolin) having the most significant presence at approximately 29 minutes. Following closely is Gamora (portrayed by Zoe Saldana) with about 19 minutes and 30 seconds, and Tony Stark / Iron Man (played by Robert Downey Jr.) with 18 minutes.

Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is featured for approximately 14 minutes and 30 seconds, while Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) appears for around 11 minutes and 30 seconds. Peter Quill / Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) has about 10 minutes and 15 seconds of screen time, and Vision (Paul Bettany) follows with 9 minutes and 45 seconds.

Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) has around 9 minutes, and Bruce Banner / Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) is seen for approximately 8 minutes and 45 seconds. Peter Parker / Spider-Man (Tom Holland) swings in for 7 minutes and 30 seconds, and Steve Rogers / Captain America (Chris Evans) stands tall at 6 minutes and 45 seconds.

As the list continues, various characters have shorter appearances, such as Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper) with 6 minutes, Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) with 5 minutes, and Drax (Dave Bautista) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff) with 4 minutes and 45 seconds each.

Other characters include Ebony Maw (Tom Vaughan-Lawlor), Proxima Midnight (Carrie Coon), Cull Obsidian (Terry Notary), and Corvus Glaive (Michael James Shaw), each having around 4 minutes or less of screen time. King T’Challa / Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), Nebula (Karen Gillan), and Okoye (Danai Gurira) are featured for approximately 3 minutes each.

Additionally, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), James “Rhodey” Rhodes / War Machine (Don Cheadle), Eitri (Peter Dinklage), and Wong (Benedict Wong) have approximately 3 minutes or less of screen time. Sam Wilson / Falcon (Anthony Mackie), James “Bucky” Barnes / Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), and The Stonekeeper (Ross Marquand) are seen for about 2 minutes or less.

Lastly, several characters, including Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross (William Hurt), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), Heimdall (Idris Elba), The Collector (Benicio Del Toro), and Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon), have brief appearances, each with 1 minute or less of screen time.

In April 2018, Scarlett Johansson made her first official public appearance with her boyfriend, Colin Jost, at the “Avengers: Infinity War” premiere.

The cute couple, who started dating sometime around May 2017, looked lovingly into each other’s eyes and held hands for many of their red carpet pictures.
