Dispelling or Fueling? Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell Tackle On-Screen Romance Speculations

Speculation about an on-set romance has swirled around Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell since the filming of the romantic comedy. However, both actors maintain that their relationship is strictly platonic.

Despite Sydney being engaged to 40-year-old Jonathan Davino, the duo’s on-screen chemistry has become a hot topic of discussion.

In a joint interview on the Today show earlier that day, Glen expressed admiration for Sydney, stating, “No, but we do love each other. And, honestly, this is one of the most spectacular humans I’ve ever met. She’s really great,” while assuring that their relationship is grounded in friendship.

Earlier this month, he raved about their amazing chemistry in an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight, saying, “A great rom-com doesn’t survive without great chemistry, and Sydney is the easiest person to have chemistry with. I mean, immediately, it was like we’d known each other forever, and I think anybody that’s been on the set realizes I never get tired of talking to Sydney.”

Glen added that he and Sweeney “make each other laugh,” noting, “She’s awesome, obviously one of the most talented actresses we have. This movie has felt like a rom-com in itself because Sydney is very easy to pretend-fall in love with.”

In an interview in May, Sydney told PEOPLE that filming Anyone But You with Glen was fun around the clock, saying, “It was just laughter 24-7. Literally, we were just having a great time every day. It was a really, really fun experience.”

The Handmaid’s Tale actress added, “I enjoyed it a lot. I’m excited for it to come out.”

Behind the Scenes with Anyone But You: Sydney Sweeney & Glen Powell’s Chemistry

In the upcoming romantic comedy Anyone But You, Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney step into the roles of Ben and Bea, two characters determined to feign affection during a wedding gathering.

The duo’s humorous plan unfolds during a group hike, where they pretend to grope each other’s behinds, all to convince friends and family of their love.

Their motive? To avert the pressure from Bea’s parents (played by Rachel Griffiths and Dermot Mulroney), pushing her to reconcile with her ex, Jonathan (Darren Barnet). Meanwhile, Ben has a personal mission: winning back his ex, Margaret, who left his heart crushed.

This entertaining tale draws inspiration from William Shakespeare’s 1600 comedy Much Ado About Nothing, with Ben and Bea’s amusing bickering mirroring the journey of Benedick and Beatrice.
