A few days before the release of Teen Beach Movie on July 19, 2013, cast members and guests hit the blue carpet in London to display their summer style. A sequel, Teen Beach 2, premiered on June 26, 2015.

1. Maia Mitchell: Retro Charm in Kat Maconie Platform Pumps

Standing at 5ft 6 (167.6 cm) and wearing a US shoe size 8.5, Teen Beach Movie star Maia Mitchell opted for an all-black ensemble that didn’t exactly scream “summer,” but it perfectly captured the spirit of an early-2000s teen movie.

Before her Disney Channel fame, Maia had already shared the screen with Garrett Clayton, her on-screen love interest Tanner, in The Fosters (2013). She also teamed up with John DeLuca in Jessie: Jessie’s Big Break (2013), where the two played love interests, showcasing her growing versatility as a young actress.

Maia wore an all-black ensemble of black jeans paired with a too-long halter top. While Maia’s ensemble from the ankle up was questionable, we love her shoes.

2. Electra Formosa: Summer Glow in Topshop “Lacie” Sandals

Electra Formosa, a top UK fashion stylist, knew how to dress for the occasion. The host of Disney Channel’s Get the Look wore a short, sexy cutout dress and light makeup. She had wavy tresses and even posed with a beach ball in hand.

Electra’s shoes were just as perfect as her ensemble. She wore platform sandals in a light color from Topshop — the “Lacie.”

Introduction to Teen Beach Movie

Filmed on the sun-soaked beaches of Puerto Rico, Teen Beach Movie was Disney Channel’s sole original release of 2013. The retro surf-musical starred Maia Mitchell, Ross Lynch, Garrett Clayton, and Gracie Gillam—each bringing youthful charm and beach-ready energy to the screen.

During filming, Ross was just sixteen, a detail that explains Disney’s decision to keep the movie lighthearted and family-friendly—right down to its modest beachwear aesthetic.

In 2022, Teen Beach Movie gained renewed attention when Ross Lynch reflected on its playful innocence during a BuzzFeed interview. He noted that Disney kept the film lighthearted and family-friendly—right down to his bright yellow rash guard and the wholesome chemistry he shared with co-star Maia Mitchell.
