Kristen Stewart Rocks Louboutin, Le Silla & Chanel Heels While Owning the Underwear-as-Outerwear Trend

Kristen Stewart has fully leaned into the underwear-as-outerwear trend during the press tour for her lesbian romantic thriller Love Lies Bleeding, which premiered on March 8, 2024. True to form, she’s been nailing every daring look, blending lingerie-inspired pieces with high fashion in a way only she can.

Set in 1989, Love Lies Bleeding follows the romantic relationship between a rising bodybuilder, Jackie (Katy O’Brian), and a reclusive gym manager, Lou (Kristen Stewart), as they get entangled in Lou’s criminal family.

Stewart’s stylist Tara Swennen told British Vogue that the actress’s sensual press tour looks are an homage to the 1980s gym setting and Kristen’s new movie’s athleticism and love story concept.

“So when we were thinking of looks, we were leaning into the idea of playfulness with a romantic yet empowering edge, but unapologetically sexy at the same time.”

The “underwear as outerwear” trend, popularized in the 1990s, experienced a resurgence in 2022 when Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner, and Taylor Swift began wearing it on the streets and at the red carpet.

We all know how fashion trends come and go and how some stay longer than expected. This underwear-as-outerwear trend, lingerie-dressing trend, pantless trend, or whatever you call it, is one I would certainly want to disappear. Unfortunately, the questionable trend is here to stay this year as more and more celebrities, including Kiernan Shipka, Sydney Sweeney, and Kristen Stewart, are adopting it.

Let’s see how Kristen Stewart is slaying the underwear-as-outerwear trend, which perfectly encapsulates her edgy, unapologetic individuality.

1. Fishnet Fierce: Vex Lingerie, Brunello Cucinelli Blazer & Louboutin Heels

On Wednesday, Stewart appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers, commanding attention in black lingerie that gave dominatrix vibes.

I love how cool and confident the Spencer star looked in the $140 Vex Latex fishnet bikini top, handmade in California from .50mm latex. It featured a daring laser-cut fishnet pattern, a sexy halterneck, and a thin back strap to hold things in place.

Kristen layered the risque look underneath a single-breasted black leather blazer jacket by Brunello Cucinelli for some coverage. The edgy outerwear had peak lapels, flap pockets, buttoned cuffs, and a front button that she left open to reveal her flat abs and black triangle bikini bra top.

The lower portion of Kristen’s ensemble included a $240 The Andamane “Nerea” crepe satin mini skirt, which fit snugly around the waist. Underneath the mini skirt, she wore a $325 Vex Latex garter belt featuring the same laser-cut fishnet pattern as her bra. It came with garter belts to keep her sheer black stockings up to her thighs.

Paired with the Christian Louboutin “Hot Chick” pumps, Kristen’s ensemble screamed sultry cool-girl. Defined by the curvy, scalloped counters, they also feature pointy toes and 4-inch stiletto heels, amplifying the glamour and sexiness of the look.

Surprisingly, Kristen traded her heels for a pair of white Onitsuka Tiger “Mexico 66” sneakers when she arrived in the studio.

Enhancing the look’s edginess, Kristen accessorized with a selection of silver jewelry. She adorned her fingers with three chunky rings, including the Gabriela Artigas Chain ring and two Alex Streeter Lucky Dice rings, $260 each, set with vintage casino dice in black and white.

She also wore a silver chain link necklace and a black band on one wrist. The Chanel ambassador carried her essentials in the Chanel Spring 2022 mini bridal bag, which was embroidered with black-and-white faux pearls and finished with a long cross-body strap.

She wore a dark wet-look mullet created by David von Cannon, which paired well with her Oliver Peoples Ov 1299T red-tinted sunglasses, completing the overall edgy vibe of the look.

2. Knit Boldness: Brunello Cucinelli Underwear & Le Silla Pumps

The previous day, Kristen made a statement in a beige look, composed of cable-knit underwear and a collared shirt.

Leaving her pants at home, the Twilight star pulled out all the stops in her skimpy beige Brunello Cucinelli Spring 2024 high-waisted briefs with dark brown trims, adding to their allure.

She paired her underwear with a matching beige shirt from the Italian luxury fashion brand, buttoning only the collar to accentuate her tiny waist and a lightly lined, praline-colored Victoria’s Secret wireless bra, on sale for $30.

Although I wouldn’t dare wear such an outfit, I admire Kristen’s boldness and ability to pull off the style easily.

Kristen wore sheer flesh-toned Wolford tights for a flawless finish before slipping her feet into a pair of $605 Le Silla “Eva” pumps in maroon patent leather.

These pumps are crafted in Italy from smooth patent calf leather and feature a classic silhouette with pointed toes and 4.7-inch tapered stiletto heels.

For a coordinated look, the Charlie’s Angels actress hid her eyes behind a pair of octagonal red-tinted sunnies by Oliver Peoples.

Wearing the same Alex Streeter and Gabriela Artigas rings, Kristen rounded out her accessories with a black patent Chanel Quilted Vanity Case bag.

She added her signature edge to the flirty, feminine look by slicking her brunette hair back into wet-look waves and wearing minimal, soft-pink makeup with nude lipstick.

3. Premiere Dare: Bettter Bodysuit & Chanel Crepe Pumps

Early this month, Kristen graced the red carpet premiere of Love Lies Bleeding, wearing… almost nothing.

Perhaps her most daring look to date, Kristen donned an extremely high-cut black bodysuit by the sustainable fashion brand Bettter. It was cut so high that I thought she could suffer a serious wardrobe malfunction.

She wore the daring bodysuit over sheer black Wolford tights and finished the ensemble with Chanel Silk Crepe Needle Heel Pumps.

Though it’s too risky for my taste, I admire Kristen’s confidence in this look. It’s an interesting choice of outfit for the movie premiere, in my opinion, but it’s definitely not for the faint-hearted.

To keep things modest, Kristen layered the scanty outfit underneath a black single-breasted blazer, also by Bettter.

She added a touch of bling to the look with silver rings from Alex Streeter and Gabriela Artigas, and styled her tresses in a messy updo, with a few loose strands framing her striking facial features.

From daring lingerie-inspired outfits to bold red-carpet statements, Kristen Stewart continues to redefine modern celebrity style. Her footwear choices in particular highlight her fearless edge and commitment to pushing fashion boundaries.
