Zendaya surprised everyone at the Rome premiere of her upcoming movie, The Drama, by stepping away from her usual bridal-inspired white dresses, which she has championed throughout the tour.

Instead, she embraced bold, dark glamour with a stunning black Armani Privé gown that perfectly showcased her elegant style. She paired it with classic Christian Louboutin pumps, adding the perfect finishing touch.

Despite the shift to darker glamour, the look still tied into the film’s wedding-inspired theme. Zendaya embraced the tradition of “something borrowed, something old, something new,” choosing a gown with a layered red-carpet history.

The black Armani Privé design served as her “something borrowed,” previously worn by Cate Blanchett—first at the 2022 SAG Awards and again at the 2025 Venice Film Festival—making Zendaya its latest, and most modern, reinterpretation.

Earlier in the press tour, Zendaya wore her white Vivienne Westwood dress from the 2015 Oscars for her “something old,” and for her “something new,” she chose a white Louis Vuitton design. Let’s take a look at her latest The Drama outfit.

Zendaya Grounds Her Dark Armani Privé Moment in Classic Christian Louboutin So Kate Pumps

As expected, Zendaya opted for another pair of black pumps, this time the iconic “So Kate” pumps by Christian Louboutin. Made from black satin, these pumps had a subtle sheen that added depth to the overall look.

With their pointed toes, sculpted low-cut vamp, and towering 4.7-inch stiletto heels, these Louboutins gave Zendaya even more height, allowing the gown to fall perfectly to the floor.

Although not fully visible beneath the gown, they provided a sense of refinement and elegance that echoed throughout the entire outfit.

Zendaya Reimagines Cate Blanchett’s Armani Privé Gown in a Darker, More Youthful Key

Zendaya’s black silk Armani Privé gown, originally worn by Cate Blanchett last year, was a true masterpiece. The deep, plunging neckline dipped nearly to her navel, accented with large onyx stones, adding a touch of drama without looking over the top.

It also had a structural element at the hips, giving it a unique architectural silhouette that drew attention to her figure before cascading into a sweeping skirt with a short train.

I loved how the black dress highlighted Zendaya’s complexion, making her glow against the rich, dark fabric. The way the dress fit her was perfection! It hugged her curves in all the right places, accentuating her slim frame, while the fabric cascaded gracefully behind her, creating a stunning, fluid movement as she walked.

While Cate Blanchett’s original look was regal and commanding, Zendaya brought her playful energy into the design, giving it a fresh, dynamic twist. The gown took on Zendaya’s youthful vibe, making it feel more modern and approachable, while still maintaining its sophisticated allure.

Zendaya Sharpens the Borrowed Couture Look with a Bixie Cut and Louis Vuitton Jewelry

Zendaya’s styling helped transform the gown’s vibe. While Cate Blanchett wore her blonde hair in soft waves for her red carpet look, Zendaya went for something bolder with a short brunette bixie haircut, styled in tousled waves with a deep side part and brow-grazing strands. This edgy hairstyle gave the outfit an unexpected twist, making it feel fresh and modern.

For accessories, Zendaya wore the same Louis Vuitton “Optimisme” earrings as Cate Blanchett but added her own twist with the Louis Vuitton “Perception” ring and a Jessica McCormack Round Wire Find Gold band. Her makeup was flawless, with soft, warm smoky red eyeshadow, a touch of rosy blush, and matching lipstick.
