At the Versace Spring 2020 fashion show during Milan Fashion Week on September 20, 2019, Jennifer Lopez closed the runway in a reimagined version of the jungle-print dress that became one of fashion’s most recognizable red-carpet looks at the 2000 Grammy Awards.

While the dress naturally drew most of the attention, the styling was equally memorable. Lopez completed the look with custom green snakeskin-effect sandals featuring square toes, slim leaf-inspired straps, and high stiletto heels that echoed the tropical theme without competing with the print.

The runway appearance reunited Lopez with Versace creative director Donatella Versace nearly two decades after the original moment, turning a famous celebrity outfit into a celebration of the house’s own history.

Speaking to Vogue after the show, Lopez said Donatella Versace personally invited her to recreate the moment for the collection’s finale.

“She basically was just like, ‘It’s been 20 years since the jungle-print dress. We’re doing a whole collection on it. Would you walk at the end?’ And I was like, “yeah!” Jennifer said.

Lopez also reflected on the reaction when she first wore the dress at the 2000 Grammy Awards, recalling how quickly interest spread as photographs appeared on television, in newspapers, and on the early internet.

The demand to see images of the dress became so significant that it is widely credited with helping inspire the creation of Google Images. Users wanted photographs of Jennifer Lopez’s Grammy look, but image search as we know it did not yet exist.

Rather than recreating her original footwear, Lopez wore custom green square-toe sandals featuring snakeskin-textured leather and delicate leaf-shaped details along the slender straps.

The sculptural heels complemented the jungle-print dress while giving the anniversary look a distinctly modern finish.

The original Grammy dress continues to inspire new interpretations, from runway collections to limited-edition collaborations, reinforcing its status as one of Versace’s defining designs and as one of the most recognizable celebrity fashion moments of the modern era.
