When Nicole Kidman arrived at the InterContinental Los Angeles Hotel for the 27th Art Directors Guild Awards in February 2023, she leaned into a look that felt both classic and sharp.
While the evening was a celebration of the production designers behind films like Babylon, Everything Everywhere All at Once, and Glass Onion, the Being the Ricardos star commanded her own spotlight in Schiaparelli.
Presenting the Cinematic Imagery Award to longtime collaborators Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin, Kidman chose an ensemble that balanced the architectural drama of couture with a pair of heels that felt deeply personal.

The iconic actress brought contemporary flair to the awards ceremony, where she presented the ADG Cinematic Imagery Award to filmmaker Baz Luhrmann and his costume-and-set-designer wife Catherine Martin, whose 30-year collaboration has produced hit movies Moulin Rouge!, The Great Gatsby, and more recently, Elvis.
Nicole made a solo arrival on the red carpet, wearing a sleek, elegant black dress designed by Daniel Roseberry for Schiaparelli.
Hailing from the Fall/Winter 2022 Couture collection, the asymmetrical black velvet number hugged every inch of the Academy Award-winning actress’s curves. It featured a one-shoulder design, a daring thigh-high slit, and a low-cut square neckline that nearly exposed her left boob.

The Bombshell actress commissioned stylist Julia von Boehm for her evening look, which included a black velvet ribbon choker with a gold avant-garde anatomical heart pendant decorated with rhinestone crystals and a keyhole opening.
The Australian superstar had her red hair straightened and parted in the middle by Kylee Heath, while makeup artist Kate Synnott added a touch of blush, smoky brown eyeshadow, and matte red lipstick to make the look more bewitching.

Gold jewelry and diamond rings were added as accessories, and Chloe Gosselin’s heels rounded out her ensemble.

Aptly named the “Nicole” pumps, these soft crepe satin shoes have sleek pointed toes and 4-inch heels, updated with a thin chain as the T-bar strap.

At one point on the red carpet, Nicole was seen posing alongside Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin.
Baz Luhrmann, the filmmaker nominated for Oscars, and his producing partner and collaborator, Catherine Martin, an Oscar-winning production and costume designer, have worked with Kidman on films such as Moulin Rouge! (2001) and Australia (2008).
They’ve also developed a friendship, and Baz has nothing but praise for the actress.

“We’re great friends, and I’m so, I don’t know if I can say I’m proud of her, I’m just so enamored and so impressed,” he told PA news agency.
“You know, we live in a world where, as an actor, you can be relegated to a certain numerical point in your life, and she’s flourished.”
“I mean, she’s not only acting in more challenging roles consistently, but she’s also producing and creating, and I think she’s someone to be admired, but she’s also just a great friend.”
