At the London premiere of Maleficent: Mistress of Evil on October 9, 2019, the red carpet at the Odeon IMAX Waterloo transformed into a masterclass in ethereal evening wear.

While Elle Fanning was famously captured admiring Angelina Jolie’s intricate back tattoos, the real magic lay in how both actresses used structural silhouettes and carefully selected footwear to ground their fantastical wardrobes.

Angelina Jolie arrived with her children—Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne—wearing a custom Ralph & Russo Couture gown.

The ensemble, a hand-pleated blend of chiffon and tulle, required a sturdy yet invisible foundation; Jolie opted for towering platforms hidden beneath her hem to manage the weight of the silver-and-gold paillette-embellished cape.

While heels remained hidden beneath sweeping hems at the London premiere, both actresses had already delivered unmistakable shoe moments throughout the Maleficent: Mistress of Evil promotional tour.

Earlier appearances saw Angelina Jolie lean fully into character-driven footwear, stepping out in custom Christian Louboutin “Malangeli” wedge heels—a sculptural design inspired by Maleficent’s iconic horns—and towering Saint Laurent “Janis” platform pumps at the Japan premiere.

Elle Fanning, meanwhile, embraced the film’s fairy-tale spirit in playful footwear choices, including whimsical Charlotte Olympia “Sleeping Beauty” pumps during press calls, reinforcing how shoes—visible or not—played a central role in grounding the duo’s fantastical couture looks throughout the film’s global rollout.
