This rendered me speechless. The moment I laid my eyes on Anya Taylor-Joy’s avant-garde outfit for the 2024 Oscar Vanity Fair Party, I was stunned and pretty sure it did the same for everyone else.
Known for her elegant yet whimsical wardrobe selections, Anya Taylor-Joy has never been one to shy away from experimenting with different looks. She often combines diverse styles to create a one-of-a-kind appearance. Take, for instance, her Oscar Vanity Fair ensemble.
Anya Taylor-Joy tapped stylist Ryan Hastings to curate her look for the evening. Thankfully, Hastings selected this bespoke LBD expertly crafted by Miss Sohee for The Queen’s Gambit actress.

Spotlight on Miss Sohee: The Designer Behind the Dress
Miss Sohee, founded by a young South Korean fashion designer named Sohee Park in 2020, is a London-based womenswear label specializing in couture. It is known for its sculptural headdresses and intricate embroideries, as seen in the Dune: Part 2 star’s ensemble.
Perfectly tailored to her slender figure, the gorgeous dress was cut from luxurious black velvet and featured an extremely deep scoop neckline extending below her sternum. It had slightly structured padded shoulders, long sleeves with integrated gloves, and a thigh-grazing skirt, which, I think, would have created a more dramatic, mesmerizing look if it was longer. Nevertheless, Anya still looked stunning.
In addition to the flattering fit, the intricate embroideries instantly grabbed my attention. It had crystal and pearl-embellished floral accents on the shoulders, with a few scattered adornments that appeared to be dripping off the floral applique.

What I liked most about the look was the butterfly bralette, which provided her with much-needed coverage. It was made of sheer mesh and adorned with tiny beads and crystals to mimic butterfly wings.
The custom-made dress was fashioned from a design from Miss Sohee’s Fall 2021 collection, which was originally a bodysuit with an open front and an unadorned butterfly bralette.
Accessorizing the Look: Jewelry and Footwear
I appreciate how she kept the lower part of her outfit simple to highlight her dress, wearing just a pair of black tights and the all-time celebrity favorite black suede Christian Louboutin “So Kate” pointy pumps.

The Menu star‘s unconventional styling may have drawn mixed criticism, but I have to say that every element of this look enamors me.
Her headpiece, which reminded me of Florence Pugh in Dune: Part 2, first drew me in. It was meticulously decorated with silver beads, crystals, and pearls and finished with two large pearl drops, making her look like she was wearing earrings.
Anya added a large Tiffany & Co. diamond ring and a Tiffany & Co. Archives Bracelet in platinum and diamond from the 1920s to the 1930s to give her not-so-ordinary LBD some extra glitz. Not that it needed more, but I like how they accented her gloves.

Glam Team Magic: Anya Taylor-Joy’s Beauty and Hair
I’m glad Anya Taylor-Joy’s glam team didn’t overlook the beauty department. Gregory Russell styled her long blonde hair straight, cascading down her back, while Georgie Eisdell used Dior Beauty to highlight her striking features.
She accentuated her doe eyes with glimmering silver eyeshadow, eyeliner, and fake eyelashes and kept the rest of her look understated with pink blush and lipstick.

Anya Taylor-Joy’s Ethereal Appearance in a Dior Gown Inspired by Botticelli’s Birth of Venus
Earlier in the day, Anya Taylor-Joy made a showstopping debut at the 96th Annual Academy Awards, stunning everyone at the Dolby Theatre with her glitzy Dior gown inspired by Botticelli’s Birth of Venus.
She took to the stage with her Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga co-star Chris Hemsworth to present the Oscars for Best Animated Short Film and Best Animated Feature Film to War Is Over! Inspired by the Music of John and Yoko and Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron, respectively.
Sharing with E! News red carpet host Laverne Cox the inspiration behind her red-carpet look, Anya said, “This was inspired by Botticelli’s Birth of Venus, and Mr. Dior first created it in 1949 to 1950, and this is Maria Grazia’s take on it. So I feel very lucky.”

The Dior Gown: A Tribute to Venus
Anya Taylor-Joy looked ethereal in her heavily embellished gray-silver gown, featuring a structured, strapless bodice decked out in crystals, silver beads, and frilly accents. The bottom part, a scalloped floor-sweeping column skirt, boasts the same accents as the bodice.
I like how the skirt is completely covered with layers of scaly-looking bejeweled scallop shell flaps, referencing Botticelli’s painting, where the Roman goddess Venus is perched atop a giant scallop shell.
I can’t get enough of the gown’s faded gray color, complementing Taylor-Joy’s luminous complexion.

Comparing the Oscar Ceremony and Vanity Fair Party Looks
If I’m being honest, I like Anya Taylor-Joy’s look more at the Vanity Fair Oscars party than at the main Oscars ceremony. While her Dior gown was exquisite, I love how her Miss Sohee dress perfectly complemented her inherent beauty and allure.
Style-wise, The Northman actress added sparkle to the look with Tiffany & Co. jewelry and a white gold and diamond Joaillerie Riviere 101 Reine watch by Jaeger-Lecoultre.
In her red carpet interview, Anya mentioned wearing Tiffany & Co. Blue Book Collection jewelry. A pair of platinum and diamond flower-shaped earrings adorned her ears, while sparkling rings, including the $92,000-$100,000 Schlumberger Ribbon Engagement Ring with a Diamond Platinum Band, decorated her manicured hands.
Completing her accessories was a Tiffany & Co. platinum and 18k yellow gold necklace with spiky diamonds.
While I like the necklace, she would look better without it. Given the elaborate design of her gown, I think the addition of the necklace was a bit excessive.

Final Thoughts on Anya’s Oscars and Vanity Fair Party Ensembles
Gregory Russell styled Anya’s long platinum blonde hair straight, flowing down her back, so as not to distract from the dress.
Georgie Eisdell used Dior Beauty cosmetics to accentuate Anya’s features. She highlighted her eyes with smokey eyeshadow and feathery eyelashes, using the Dior Rouge Blush in #100 Nude and #219 Rose Montaigne on her cheeks. A swipe of the Dior Addict Lip Glow Balm in #028 Minty Rose, Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil in #012 Rosewood, and Rouge Dior Contour in 100 Nude Look rounded out her glam.
Nail artist Kim Truong coordinated Anya’s manicure with her dress, giving her silver “Cat Eye” nails.
