Elle Fanning served up some mystery as a Hitchcockian femme fatale on the red carpet for the Once Upon A Time In Hollywood premiere during the 2019 Cannes Film Festival on May 21, 2019, in Cannes, France.

The ensemble, a tribute to the iconic 1950s-inspired custom Dior Haute Couture outfit, took a staggering 450 hours to make. She paired an ivory-hued, slightly sheer shirt with long bishop sleeves with a sprawling midnight-blue tulle skirt.

According to InStyle, “200 hours were spent on the skirt alone — which required 50 meters (164 feet) of tulle — and 150 were spent on the shirt.”

Looking like an Old Hollywood movie star, she completed her look with a black wide-brim macramé hat, Chopard jewelry, and black pointy-toe pumps. The choice of footwear anchored the airy tulle with a structured, timeless silhouette that leaned into the “vintage-chic” aesthetic.

Dakota Fanning also joined her sister on the red carpet, both appearing in sumptuous Giorgio Armani Privè dresses and Chopard jewels.
Just days earlier, Elle arrived at Kering’s Women In Motion Awards on May 19, 2019, during the same festival. For that appearance, she chose a strapless mixed-print Dior gown and balanced the floor-length hem with Prada shoes.
