Heidi Klum is making a case for denim on the red carpet this year with a classic Y2k denim gown, following up her stunning space-age liquid metal gown at the Fashion Trust US Awards last year.

Hosted this year by Zooey Deschanel, the Fashion Trust US is a nonprofit organization dedicated to discovering and supporting new and emerging talents in the fashion design industry.

This year’s honors included the Inclusivity Award (Ashley Harris of beaded jewelry brand Don’t Let Disco), Jewelry Award (MoAnA Luu of ManLuu), Accessories Award (Esha Soni), Graduate Award (Yamil Arbaje), Sustainability Award (Batsheva Hay), and Ready-to-Wear Award (Charles Harbison of Harbison Studio).

The winners each got trophies created by jewelry designer Nigora Tokhtabayeva of Tabayer, along with a total funding of nearly $500,000.

Heidi Klum, known for her diverse and eclectic style, never fails to wow me with her fashion choices. On certain days, she’ll provide us with a traditional gown, while she’ll surprise us with an avant-garde ensemble on other occasions. She constantly brings something fresh to the table—something I never would have imagined, and I adore her for that.

Klum’s $721 Sonia Carrasco denim gown for the 2024 Fashion Trust US Awards seemed like a contemporary take on Britney Spears’ 2001 AMA denim dress, elevating casual denim to high fashion. It perfectly encapsulates the Barcelona-based designer’s signature aesthetic, often a blend of refinement and minimalism with modern, avant-garde designs.

It’s not something I expected from the Making the Cut host, as it’s far from the fashion-forward gown she wore last year, but I love the nod to Y2K fashion. Its dark wash denim structure makes it somewhat understated, in my opinion, but the way it’s worn to reveal plenty of skin adds to the look’s appeal.

I love how the unbuttoned gown’s deconstructed look lends a touch of modern flair to the classic fabric. Both the bodice and the skirt are left undone, giving the ensemble an asymmetrical, one-shoulder effect with a plunging neckline and a daring thigh-high slit that contribute to its allure.

The orange seams and trimmings, front chest pockets, and dramatic sweeping train of the “C” shaped denim long dress further solidify the place of casual denim trend on the red carpet.

I don’t know about you, but I find the dress fairly modest despite the display of cleavage and legs. Or perhaps I just think it’s more subtle compared to the daring styles she typically dons when walking the red carpet.

I initially thought a pair of thigh-high boots seemed a better match for the denim dress, but I realized pumps weren’t a bad option either, adding a sleek finishing touch to the look.

The longtime America’s Got Talent judge wore the Saint Laurent “Instinct” pumps in black satin, $845 at FWRD, with pointed toes and 4.5-inch heels.

Some of you may find the minimalistic styling boring. Still, I commend her stylists, Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn, for opting to complement the outfit with understated jewelry and keeping the dress as the main attraction.

They accessorized Leni Olumi Klum’s mom with chunky floral-shaped diamond earrings and adorned her hands with dainty gold rings.

I also appreciate Klum’s fresh glam, created by Sabrina Bedrani and Lorenzo Martin. Bedrani gave the supermodel thick mascara with coral eyeshadow dusted with glitters to highlight her hazel eyes. A hint of blush and coral pink lipstick completed the look.

The Sunglasses at Night singer finally wore her dirty blonde hair straight; I love the side-swept bangs that gave her 1990s vibe. I honestly almost didn’t recognize her with that hairstyle!
