When it comes to red carpet fashion, there’s a fine line between “costume” and “tasteful” while still keeping things eye-catching. Designers have earned their keep throughout history because they know how to carefully straddle the fine line between the two territories. However, sometimes a look gets a little too comfortable on that fine line: Like a recent look Jennifer Beals wore with a very interesting pair of shoes.
The former teen model was photographed at the NBC Universal mid-season press junket at the Four Seasons Hotel in New York wearing one of her more experimental styles in order to promote her latest television “Taken,” an adaption of the Liam Neeson film.

We can’t decide whether Jennifer’s only carrying this outfit because of her model-like figure, or whether the outfit itself is good. We’ll give this outfit a pass due to the ambiguity.
Jennifer dressed up in a top-and-skirt combination by Tracy Reese, showing off the designer’s iconic bold colors and unique prints. The 53-year-old American actress finished her look with a black structured mini tote, jewelry from Erica Courtney and her pair of tuxedo-inspired “La Garconne” pumps from Olgana Paris.

We have no qualms about the top and skirt — the combination leaves us neither awestruck or bored. The shoes, however, are still up in the air. They look slightly tacky, as if a Chippendale were transformed into a shoe, but at the same time, they’re kind of cute in a quirky way.
