At the Stella McCartney Autumn 2016 presentation held at Amoeba Music in Los Angeles on January 12, 2016, Karrueche Tran stepped onto the red carpet in one of the softer monochrome looks of the season: a pale pink knit mini dress paired with matching Alexander McQueen plexi boots.

Long before Claws helped define her television career, Tran was already developing a recognizable fashion formula built around statement shoes.

Here, Tran balanced the oversized silhouette of Topshop’s “Jumbo Trapeze Funnel Jumper” sweater dress with sharply structured Alexander McQueen plexi boots, using the pointed toe, transparent side panels, and sculptural Perspex heel to keep the soft monochromatic outfit from feeling oversized. The look also captured one of the era’s defining “high-low” styling formulas, pairing an accessible high-street knit with nearly $4,000 worth of designer accessories.

Later that year, it was announced that Karrueche would star opposite Niecy Nash in TNT’s Claws pilot. Premiering on TNT on June 11, 2017, the series was renewed several times.

Tran paired the blush pink Topshop sweater dress with Alexander McQueen’s Plexi-Heel ankle boots, a mid-2010s hybrid silhouette that merged the sharp shape of a pointed pump with the coverage of a fitted ankle boot. Originally retailing for around $1,785, the design featured transparent vinyl side panels and a four-inch Perspex block heel with metallic internal hardware, details that reflected fashion’s growing obsession with “floating” shoe silhouettes during the era.

The translucent side panels lightened the otherwise sharp silhouette and helped tie the pale pink palette together without overwhelming the outfit.

She finished the look with Christian Louboutin’s “Paloma” tote in the brand’s pale pink “Ballerina” colorway, adding subtle contrast through the bag’s signature red-lined interior and spiked side panels. Those tougher details prevented the tonal pink styling from feeling overly soft, giving the monochromatic outfit a sharper fashion edge.

Later that night, Tran was photographed leaving West Hollywood hotspot The Nice Guy with longtime friend Christina Milian, who carried a wad of dollar bills during the pair’s playful goodbye moment. The outfit transitioned seamlessly from Stella McCartney’s fashion presentation at Amoeba Music to late-night Hollywood nightlife, reinforcing how wearable the oversized sweater dress and statement-boot combination felt off the runway.

The Alexander McQueen boots ultimately became the focal point of the outfit, reflecting the monochromatic neutral trend that dominated mid-2010s celebrity fashion. By keeping the dress, makeup, and accessories within the same blush-toned palette, Tran allowed the sculptural Perspex heel and transparent panels to stand out in photographs without competing against louder styling elements.

Alexander McQueen experimented heavily with transparent shoe detailing during the mid-2010s, especially in styles that blended pumps and ankle boots into a single silhouette. Karrueche Tran’s version reflected that design direction while keeping the look wearable through soft neutral styling and minimal accessories.

Alexander McQueen’s Sculptural Shoes Continue to Define Red-Carpet Fashion

Karrueche Tran’s pale pink plexi boots captured a side of Alexander McQueen design that still feels instantly recognizable years later: sharp silhouettes softened by transparency, sculptural construction, and footwear that becomes the focal point of the outfit.

From crystal-covered mesh boots to extreme runway platforms, the house has continued to treat shoes as both fashion accessories and statement pieces.
