When Kristen Stewart arrived at the 75th Cannes Film Festival in May 2022, she brought her signature blend of high-fashion rebellion and intellectual curiosity.

Promoting David Cronenberg’s visceral body-horror film Crimes of the Future, the Oscar nominee admitted she spent much of the production questioning the script’s complexities, only to find clarity in the “exposing nature” of the finished art.

While the film’s graphic themes sparked both ovations and walkouts, the fashion world was more focused on Stewart’s evolving relationship with the house of Chanel.

Her style journey leading up to the festival, including her daring look at the 2022 Oscars, set the stage for her Cannes wardrobe.

Her appearances throughout the festival offered a masterclass in “cool-girl” glam, though her choice of footwear occasionally sparked as much debate as the film itself.

Cannes Premiere Risk: Chanel Haute Couture Meets Safe Pointy-Toe Pumps

Decked out in Chanel Spring 2022 Haute Couture, Stewart’s premiere look was a bit underwhelming. She wore a cropped turtleneck top with long sleeves and multicolored embellishments – a glamorous piece with a cool edge for which the actress is known.

But it’s the bottom half of the look that had us puzzled. The white tulip-shaped skirt looked out of place and did nothing to accentuate her figure, while the pair of pointy-toe black pumps was a boring choice for the event.

Overall, Stewart’s red carpet premiere look did not reflect the hype surrounding the most original selection of this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Photocall Redemption: Chanel Tweed Jumpsuit & Casadei Platform Boots

Stewart redeemed herself the next day at the “Crimes of the Future” photocall in a red-and-white tweed jumpsuit from Chanel’s Resort 2023 collection.

The tousled blonde locks, yellow-tinted Oliver Peoples Tk-2 shades, and exposed cleavage all contributed to the sultry elegance of the look.

Her outfit reminded us of the oozing confidence she showed while on this year’s Academy Awards red carpet.

While we’re undecided on the black Casadei platform block-heel boots, the rest of the ensemble showcased exactly what we love about Stewart’s style.

Cool-Girl Glam: Black Chanel Haute Couture & Open-Toe Heels

The Oscar nominee returned to the red carpet for the premiere of “The Innocent” later that day in an all-black Chanel Haute Couture ensemble, opting for a Fall 2021 bustier and Spring 2021 tweed trousers.

The exposed shoulders, flirty hint of her toned midriff, and nonchalant pose all added to the cool-girl glam vibe of this look.

She finished it off with an artfully messy bun, sunglasses, black open-toed Chanel heels, and pieces from Chanel High Jewelry.

Kristen Stewart’s Footwear Philosophy: Rebellion, Refinement & Red-Carpet Risk

From towering platform boots to minimalist Chanel slingbacks, Kristen Stewart’s footwear choices have become as much a part of her red-carpet narrative as the clothes themselves.

Whether she’s rejecting traditional glamour or redefining it on her own terms, her shoes consistently anchor — and sometimes challenge — the look.
