Questions About Light Up Shoes
When did light up shoes first come out?
LA Gear, an American lifestyle brand based in Los Angeles, California, came out with a successful footwear line for kids called LA Lights in 1992. Launched at Foot Locker and Kids Foot Locker, LA Gear worked closely with New York-based BBC International, which owned the original patent for the light technology.
It was footwear legend Bob Campbell, the founder of BBC International, who came up with the idea to put lights in shoes. His invention was celebrated in an episode of the long-running Fox animated series “The Simpsons.”
According to Mark Goldston, a former chief executive of LA Gear, his company sold millions of light up shoes in the 1990s.
”We took the market by rage,” he told The New York Times. ”We sold millions of these things.”
How long do light up shoes last?
It depends on the brand and the light-up setting. Most shoes will stay lit for up to 4-11 hours before needing to be recharged.
