Rihanna rarely ever gets it wrong on the red carpet. I hate to say this, but her most recent public appearance was one of those rare moments.

The Fenty Beauty founder hosted an event at 7th Street Studios on Friday to celebrate the launch of her new makeup product, the Soft’Lit Naturally Luminous Longwear Foundation.

She looked gorgeous as always in a soft yellow dress, but not until she walked the carpet.

Fashion Missteps

Don’t get me wrong; I love how her glowing skin-pops against the yellow dress. It gives her a gorgeous radiance that makes her stand out. However, I don’t understand why she blended with the backdrop and the yellow carpet.

Not only that, but I also thought the dress was ill-fitting. While the busty display was already expected considering Rihanna’s daring sense of style, the dress’s excessively tight corset-style bodice didn’t fit her frame well. She nearly spilled out of the dress.

The dress is a bespoke Alexander McQueen design, and Rihanna looks sensational in it; it’s just the fitting and how she matches the backdrop that’s bothersome.

The exotic dress, cut from faux pony hide, features a pointed sweetheart neckline and a strikingly tight-fitting boning construction highlighting Rihanna’s hourglass figure.

It ends just a few inches below the knees, allowing the singer to display her tan leather wraparound gladiator heels.

Though I admit the thin laces around her legs gave the outfit an extra glamorous touch, I would have loved it better with minimalist gold heels.

Stylistic Choices and Jewelry

Ever the maximalist dresser, A$AP Rocky’s baby mama styled the eye-catching look with gold bling with the help of her trusted stylist, Jahleel Weaver.

I was relieved they ditched the necklace since it would have been excessive. Instead, they accessorized the look with a stack of gold and diamond bracelets and a few rings, including a custom XIV Karats Mom Gold and Diamond Ring. A crystal-embellished anklet rounded out her jewelry.

Wearing a French mani and white pedi, Rihanna fashioned her long, honey-blonde tresses straight with a deep side part.

Makeup Details

Naturally, she wore makeup from her beauty line to give herself a “golden hour glow.” She tried the new Soft’Lit Foundation in shade 335 using the 145 Foundation Brush. She applied the We’re Even Fenty Concealer in 300N to even out her skin and set it with the Invisimatte Instant Setting + Blotting Powder.

RiRi, whose estimated net worth is $1.7 billion, used the Shadowstix Longwear Eyeshadow Stick in Candy Wrapper and the Flyliner Longwear Liquid Eyeliner in Cuz I’m Black to draw focus to her eyes.

For a radiant finish, she applied the Demi’Glow Highlighter in Tutu Much and Loo$e Change, the Match Stix Contour Skinstick in Mocha, and the SunStalk’r Instant Warmth Bronzer in Bajan Gyal.

“It’s hydrating, long wear and packed with skin-loving ingredients! And you DAMN RIGHT it’s coming in all 50 shades!!”
