For this throwback to the 2018 SAG Awards, we’re moving beyond the usual A-listers to spotlight some understated yet equally intriguing celebrities who graced the red carpet with captivating footwear choices.
From Alison Brie of GLOW to Sarah Sutherland of Veep, here are seven stars—and their standout shoes—who deserve a second look.
Red Rebel: Alison Brie Stuns in Dundas Dress and Jimmy Choo Platforms
Alison Brie, known for her role in Netflix’s GLOW, captivated everyone’s attention at the event with her remarkable arm candy and impeccable ensemble.
The talented Mad Men actress, accompanied by her husband, Dave Franco, made a striking appearance on the red carpet.

She donned a captivating dress designed by Dundas. The dress skillfully combined a sequined strip with stunning red fabric, creating a harmonious fusion of glamour and sophistication.

Like a rebel on the carpet, Alison contrasted her dress with purple Jimmy Choo platform sandals. We love the height of the platforms and the length they created. A curious white strip lined the delicate ankle strap.
Alison completed her look with exquisite Irene Neuwirth jewelry and a chic Jimmy Choo clutch, adding a touch of elegance to her bold ensemble.

Unexpected Boldness: Frances McDormand’s Retro-Print Statement Pumps
Frances McDormand may have won big at the SAG Awards — taking home the trophy for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role and Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” — but her shoes were the actual silent winner.

As the actress exited the stage, she lifted her dress to reveal a pair of funky retro print pumps. While the shoes may raise eyebrows, we love that Frances was spunky enough to conceal such a crazy pair underneath her feminine dress.

Dramatic Elegance: Jessica Pimentel’s Million-Dollar Dress & Satin Heels
Little known to the fashion circles, Jessica Pimentel had a crazy secret the night of the SAG Awards: her dress was fully encrusted with black diamonds.

The Malan Breton dress was inspired by the indigenous people of Taiwan and cost a whopping $1.2 million. Whew. That’s a lot to process.

Her shoes are cheaper than her dress but still quite noteworthy. The “Orange Is the New Black” actress kept her footwear simple yet elegant, wearing knotted platform sandals with metallic heels.
Her million-dollar look was completed with exquisite jewelry from Narcisa Pheres, DVANI by A&G Gem, and Djula, adding a final touch of elegance and sophistication.

Dreamy in Teal: Madeline Brewer’s Reem Acra Gown & Velvet Casadei Sandals
Madeline Brewer chose a stunning piece from the Reem Acra Pre-Fall 2018 collection, beautifully complemented by her auburn hair and fair complexion. The look was simply enchanting.

Touches of red added some oomph to the look. Madeline picked out a pair of Casadei crossover sandals made from 50 percent satin and 50 percent velvet. The lining and sole are made from genuine leather.

Bold red lips and Stefere jewelry finished Madeline’s dreamy look.

To prevent herself from blending in, Madeline cleverly complemented her ensemble with a vibrant-colored lip and opted for red velvet strappy sandals.

Color Pop: Molly Sims in Violet Stuart Weitzman Nudist Sandals
Not another pair of Stuart Weitzman “Nudist” sandals! We know, we know — we’ve all seen this shoe tirelessly over the past several years.

But hear us out this once: is that a beautiful shade of violet or what? We usually spot neutrals and “safe” colorways of this shoe on the red carpet, so when we see a unique color, we have to point it out.

We love these shoes on Molly Sims, but wish her dress didn’t look so crazy.
Not only did her Greta Constantine dress complement the SAG Awards trophy a little too well, but the whole thing was just wrong from top to bottom. An unflattering silhouette and a less-than-appealing color combination receive a thumbs down from us. We still love her “Nudist” sandals, though.

Golden Glamour: Sarah Sutherland’s Lavinia Heels & Off-Shoulder Look
Hollywood celebrities made a powerful statement at the Golden Globes by wearing all-black in support of the “Time’s Up” advocacy, but actress Sarah Sutherland may have missed a memo.

Everyone—including “Time’s Up” founder Reese Witherspoon—opted for pops of color on the carpet, while Sarah chose black.

Of course, there’s always that possibility that she just wanted to wear black. The actress stepped out on the carpet in an off-shoulder long gown that didn’t do much for her figure.

Luckily, her shoe of choice was quite interesting. Sarah added glam to her look with the iconic gold Giuseppe Zanotti “Lavinia” sandals.

Architectural Chic: Susan Kelechi Watson in Rubin Singer and Zaha Sandals
Last but certainly not least, “This Is Us” actress Susan Kelechi Watson schooled us on some classic glam.

With a stellar blue dress and a pair of glitter sandals, how can one go wrong?

The actress wowed in a sculptural strapless gown by Russian-American designer Rubin Singer, featuring an architectural asymmetrical neckline and a gracefully draped skirt that added movement and drama to her red carpet moment.

Susan wore the hot Nicholas Kirkwood “Zaha” sandals inspired by the late architect Zaha Hadid. A Tyler Ellis clutch and AP Monaco jewels finished the actress’s look. Sarah Silverman wore shoes from the same collection and an ankle-grazing dress by New York-based designer Romona Keveza.
We love the “Zaha” sandals, especially the lines and the varied heels. Which understated shoe look is your favorite?
