After nailing the press tour for Dune: Part 2 with her epic method dressing, Zendaya, everyone’s favorite style icon, continued her winning fashion streak at the 2024 Oscars, stunning every attendee at the Dolby Theatre with yet another breathtaking look, this time by Armani Privé.

I honestly can’t recall a moment when Zendaya failed us. Her knack for turning every red carpet into her personal runway amazes me each time. Who could forget her jaw-dropping wet look from the 2021 Venice Film Festival? Or her futuristic Dune 2 press tour looks, particularly her archival Mugler robot armor suit at the Dune: Part 2 world premiere?

I particularly adore Zendaya’s talent for skillfully and effortlessly balancing risky and refined looks, which she again demonstrated at the 96th Annual Academy Awards.

Channeling Old Hollywood Glamour With a Modern Twist

Regardless of what she’s wearing, the Euphoria star never fails to draw attention. And for this year’s Oscars, she opted to channel Old Hollywood glamour in an old rose silk patterned gown—a refreshing departure from her futuristic Dune: Part 2 press tour outfits.

Although some might find Zendaya’s gown underwhelming in contrast to other extravagant looks at the glitzy event, her choice to opt for a classic design and silhouette is pretty impressive. Plus, it perfectly captures her taste for vintage aesthetics with a hint of understated elegance.

A Masterclass in Red Carpet Styling

Working with her longtime friend, stylist, and fashion partner-in-crime, Law Roach, Zendaya exuded effortless sophistication in the Armani Privé gown that glamorously encased her slender figure.

The flattering silhouette begins with an asymmetrical fitted bodice that elegantly flares into a floor-sweeping skirt at the hips.

What appeals to me the most about Zendaya’s gown is its top half; it features a structured black sequin-embellished corset that seems to pop out from the embroidered old rose silk fabric draping from the one-shoulder twist rope strap. It also has a sweetheart neckline, allowing the youngest CFDA Fashion Icon winner to display just enough cleavage for a hint of seduction.

Gunmetal paillette-embroidered palm trees decorate the rest of the gown, providing a retro finish.

The Art of Accessorizing by Zendaya

Standing five-foot-ten, Zendaya lifted her height by slipping her feet into the Jimmy Choo “Max” platform sandals with 6-inch stiletto heels.

Though not visible from underneath her gown, these suede sandals, with an open toe, buckled ankle straps, and thick platforms, were the perfect shoe for the look. If you need some height-boosting shoes, get them for $950 at Jimmy Choo and Farfetch.

In my opinion, necklaces aren’t necessary for one-shoulder dresses. I’m glad the Spider-Man actress eschewed a necklace in favor of a bracelet, a ring, and a pair of statement drop earrings from Bulgari’s High Jewelry collection. They feature diamonds, morganites, pink tourmalines, and mandarin garnets, which didn’t overshadow her ensemble and went well with her look’s Old Hollywood theme.

Seeing Zendaya accessorize with another set of jewelry from the brand didn’t surprise me, considering she’s been an Italian luxury fashion house ambassador since 2020.

Completing the Look: Zendaya’s Beauty and Glamour Routine

Her glam team, two-time Emmy-winning makeup artist Ernesto Casillas and hairstylist Tai Simon, perfected Zendaya’s Old Hollywood look. They styled her vintage-inspired outfit with retro-looking hair and makeup.

Casillas gave her a bronzed glow with rose gold eyeshadow, mascara, and a semi-matte rosy lipstick to match her dress.

For her hair, Simon used Joico hair products to create Zendaya’s wavy bob with a deep side part and flipped-out ends. He prepped her hair for styling using the KBOND20 power masque, the Dream Blowout Thermal Protection Créme, and the Defy Damage Protective Shield before using the T3 Hot rollers.

She sprayed the Joico Power Spray while pin-curling the ends to maintain the curls. Afterward, Tai used the K-Pak Color Therapy Luster Lock Glossing Oil to keep Zendaya’s hair shiny and sealed it with a mist of the Flip Turn Volumizing Finishing Spray.

Zendaya’s short, square nails were painted glossy pink to keep her look cohesive.

A Star Beyond the Nominees: Zendaya’s Oscars Presence

Zendaya wasn’t nominated at the 96th Academy Awards. Still, she ensured her presence was felt in her glamorous Old Hollywood evening look as she took to the stage to present the Oscar for Best Cinematography to Oppenheimer‘s Hoyte van Hoytema.

The event marked Zendaya’s return to the Oscars after skipping last year’s ceremony to enjoy quality time with her boyfriend, Tom Holland, in London.

Holland, noticeably missing from this year’s Oscars, has only attended the Oscars once in 2018 to co-present the Best Visual Effects award with Gina Rodriguez.
