Selena Gomez Takes the Stage in a Sequined Checker Crop Top

Every once in a while, a star must fall – while the lovely Selena Gomez rarely fails us with her fashion preferences, we think her recent London concert outfit came out a bit, um, awkward. We understand that this was just half of her ensemble (she was also seen with a sheer black top over the crop top) and that it was originally a lovely black-and-white look, but the next part made the singer look like she was about to wave the flag at the starting line of a car race, only she was doing it in diapers.

The Disney star donned a sequined black-and-white crop top from ASOS, which had a checkered pattern in front that disappears as horizontal stripes at the sides, while the back is done in a contrasting vertical stripe pattern. She paired this sparkly two-toned top with white high-waisted shorts and stockings. Selena put on her signature red lips and brown eyeshadow look, keeping her hair braided at the top but long and flowing at the bottom.

Not that we hate the top per se, but some masterful styling has to come to play to pull this sequined crop top off. Perhaps a pair of black high-waisted pencil skirt or even a high-waisted flowy maxi skirt will do wonders for the top. We recommend staying away from midi or mini pleated skirts, however, as the ensemble might create a Japanese school girl “go, Speedracer, go!” vibe. Perhaps the quiet winner of this look would have to be her gorgeous brunette braids, which did not necessarily go with her outfit but looked adorable on her anyway.

To all the not-so-traditional fashion crazies out there, this quirky top might just be for you.
