Blake Lively Wows in Color-Changing Versace Gown at Met Gala as Ryan Reynolds Supports Her on the Red Carpet

Blake Lively wowed the world at the annual Met Gala in May 2022. The theme was the Gilded Age, the era famous for the late nineteenth-century extravagance of the East Coast’s elite.

Her dress stole the show. As co-chair of the event, she had to stay on theme, but boy, did she deliver.

Her Atelier Versace dress had a stunning copper train. When she reached the top of the steps, she removed the gown’s bow to reveal the aqua side of her train, representing the copper carbonate known as patina that has changed the Statue of Liberty’s color to what is seen now.

Her references to New York City didn’t stop there, though. Lively’s dress featured art deco embroidery to symbolize the city’s architecture, and the ceiling of Grand Central Station inspired the stitching on her train.

And to top off her look, Lively wore a tiara, just as the Statue of Liberty does. The Shallows actress also wore her favorite Christian Louboutin ‘Marchavekel’ sandals.

“I thought instead of looking to fashion to influence the dress, I looked to New York City architecture and the classic buildings,” Blake said on the red carpet.

“The draping [represents] the Statue of Liberty, plus the crown, which has seven tiers, the Statue of Liberty has seven rays representing the sun’s rays and then also the seven seas and continents, which represent welcomeness, inclusivity, and freedom,” she added about her collaboration with American jeweler Lorraine Schwartz.

“I sound like a Wikipedia page. — She has 25 windows, so Lorraine [Schwartz] put 25 stones at the bottom, so they’re all New York City references.”

Blake Lively Channels the Statue of Liberty in Transforming Versace Gown at the 2022 Met Gala

Paying homage to the Statue of Liberty and New York City itself, her rust-colored Versace dress turned turquoise to resemble the natural oxidative process of bronze, and its long train depicted constellations like those on the ceiling at Grand Central Station.

Her famous husband looked terrific in his well-fitting Ralph Lauren black suit with a white waistcoat. It’s almost easy to forget that this power couple is raising three young daughters together.

Ryan Reynolds Praises Blake Lively’s High Standards and Their Parenting Teamwork

In an interview with David Letterman for My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, Reynolds praised Blake Lively for setting high standards, saying, “Blake runs the show.”

He also emphasized the importance of teamwork in balancing their busy schedules while raising their three daughters.

Ryan Reynolds Prioritizes Family Time and Being Present for His Daughters

Reynolds isn’t new to prioritizing family time. In October 2021, the busy actor briefly stepped back from work, telling People, “Our kids are still quite young, and I don’t want to miss it.”

He later shared with Access Hollywood that he tries to stay present as his daughters grow up quickly, adding, “I just try to be as present as possible.”

Lively and Reynolds first met while filming Green Lantern in 2010. Reynolds played the superhero, and Lively starred as his love interest.

But it wasn’t love at first sight: Lively had been dating Gossip Girl costar Penn Badgley on and off since 2007, and Reynolds was married to actress Scarlett Johansson.

The pair married at Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, on September 9th, 2012, and have been happily together ever since.
