During a pivotal career shift in February 2016, Australian actress Teresa Palmer balanced the release of the Nicholas Sparks romantic drama The Choice with the anticipation surrounding her performance in Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge.
While visiting Manhattan to discuss her role as Gabby Holland, Palmer demonstrated her ability to transition from the lighthearted sentimentality of a Sparks heroine to the grit of a biographical war drama.
This period in New York City offered a clear look at Palmer’s signature red-carpet style—a blend of contemporary Australian designers and bold footwear choices that complemented her rising profile in Hollywood.

Promoting ‘The Choice’ After Wrapping ‘Hacksaw Ridge’
Promoting her new film, based on Nicholas Sparks’ 2007 novel of the same name, which you can buy on Amazon, the actress was spotted outside The Huffington Post to chat about the romantic drama film directed by Ross Katz.
“I am a huge Nicholas Sparks fan, and ‘The Notebook’ was a huge deal for me growing up,” Teresa said.
“I just had a dream of one day playing my own version of Allie Hamilton. So when (The Choice) landed in my lap, I thought it was very serendipitous,” she added.

Effortless Style: Teresa’s Fashion at Huffington Post Live
Teresa was hard to miss in an intricately embroidered green ensemble by Camilla and Marc. She flashed a hint of midriff in the two-piece number, which included a patterned sleeveless crop top and a matching skirt.

The “Warm Bodies” actress styled the busy outfit with minimal accessories, adding a contrasting pop of color with light blue heels.

She wore her blonde locks straight with a side part and kept her makeup feminine with bubblegum pink lipstick.

Kristen Stewart’s lookalike perfected her fun, fresh look with light blue suede Bionda Castana “Bay” pumps.
Teresa Palmer’s 5ft 4 frame (162.6 cm) gained a polished, fashion-insider lift from Bionda Castana’s mesh-paneled pumps, whose asymmetric toe caps and 4.3-inch heel elevated her silhouette to approximately 5ft 8 inches (172.7 cm).
At the height of the brand’s mid-2010s popularity, Bionda Castana was a red-carpet favorite—celebrated for its blend of London cool and Italian craftsmanship—making the choice feel both of-the-moment and quietly directional.

Securing the Role of Dorothy Schutte in ‘Hacksaw Ridge’
She finished filming the 2016 biographical war film Hacksaw Ridge two months earlier. In it, she starred as nurse Dorothy Schutte, the love interest of Andrew Garfield’s character, Desmond Doss.
Teresa Palmer was so eager to secure a role in the movie that she auditioned through her iPhone and sent the recording to Mel Gibson.
“I was really wanting this role. I auditioned for it, I put myself down on tape just on an iPhone, sent it in and never heard anything for three months,” she said in an interview with Channel Nine’s Today Extra.

Behind the Scenes of ‘Hacksaw Ridge’
Despite not hearing back for three months, Gibson eventually contacted Palmer via Skype to inform her that she had landed the part of Dorothy, Doss’s wife.
“I ended up having a Skype meeting with [Mel Gibson] kind of out of the blue. And he told me during the Skype that I was Dorothy. It was really special,” she added.

Filmed entirely in Australia, Teresa Palmer was 29 when filming started on September 29, 2015. Born on February 26, 1986, in Adelaide, Australia, she turned 30 on that same day in 2016.
The last scenes of Hacksaw Ridge were filmed in December 2015, and the movie was released in the United States on November 4, 2016.

The Australian actress told Screen Rant that she spent a lot of time preparing for the role of Dorothy (Schutte) Doss.
“I did a lot of research. I listened to audiotapes of hers, read love stories that they wrote to each other, and then also just, gosh, so much. The accent; the accent was really the one that I had to work on. And not only did I have to have this Lynchburg, Virginia, 1940s accent, I also listened to the way she sounded. And I wanted to sound just like her, so I had to fully change the tone of my voice as well. So it was a process.”
American-British actor Andrew Garfield was 32 years old when filming Hacksaw Ridge. He was born in Los Angeles on August 20, 1983, and turned 33 on that same day in 2016.
Andrew Garfield’s Emotional Performance as Desmond Doss
Mel Gibson stated that during the movie’s screening, Desmond T. Doss’s son, Desmond Jr., was present and deeply moved by Andrew Garfield’s authentic depiction of his father, which brought him to tears.
