As the award season unfolds this year, fans eagerly analyze Margot Robbie’s ensemble for nods to her iconic portrayal of Barbie in the 2023 blockbuster film.

Breathing new life into Barbie’s timeless looks, the 33-year-old Australian movie actress has artfully infused her signature style into the iconic Mattel doll’s wardrobe, which includes retro swimsuits and vibrant neon pink minidresses reminiscent of Barbie’s heyday.

The Oscars: Margot Robbie’s Surprising Fashion Statement

For the grand finale of the award show, many, including myself, anticipated that Margot would reserve her ultimate Barbie recreation.

However, she defied expectations at the 96th annual Oscar Awards red carpet by boldly departing from the doll’s signature hues.

Making her grand entrance at Los Angeles’s Dolby Theatre, Margot bid her symbolic farewell as the beloved doll, captivating everyone in a Versace liquid black chainmail column gown from the Italian luxury fashion house’s Fall/Winter 2024-2025 collection.

Breaking Down the Details: Robbie’s Oscars Ensemble

In my opinion, her choice of attire was a daring statement. She veered from the expected Barbiecore fashion and embraced a more understated yet mesmerizing aesthetic.

The gown, adorned with a strapless, arched neckline and fitted bodice with intricate gathering at the waist, beautifully accentuated her enviable curves, exuding timeless elegance.

Styled by Andrew Mukamal, whose elite clientele includes luminaries such as Carey Mulligan and Billie Eilish, Margot opted for a relatively minimalist approach, ensuring the silhouette and shade took center stage.

A Closer Look at Robbie’s Minimalist Approach and Accessories

While simplicity can indeed be captivating, I believe a touch more embellishment could have enhanced the ensemble, adding a dash of glamour befitting the grandeur of the Oscars.

I would have loved to see the Asteroid City star accessorize her attire with statement-making pieces adorning her neck and ears.

Nonetheless, Margot’s choice of accessories, including the chunky Belperron Retro Gold and Diamond Torsade cuff on her left wrist, complemented by a matching Belperron Retro Gold and Diamond Torsade ring on her right hand, added a touch of sophistication to her ensemble.

In my view, her blonde hair, styled by Bryce Scarlett, with a blend of straightness and gentle waves, parted elegantly in the middle, exuded a chic vibe.

However, it missed an opportunity with the gown’s elegance, appearing slightly too casual for the occasion. It could have been elevated with a refined finish to complement the gown’s sophistication.

Make-up artist Pati Dubroff crafted a cool-toned look for Margot, featuring peach lips and rich brown eyeliner, which echoed hues in her glossy manicure.

Margot Robbie Snub and Barbie Oscar Nominations

Barbie received nominations in eight categories at the award show, including the highly sought-after Best Picture honor. However, Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig were missing from their respective category nominations.

Despite this, Margot technically earned a nomination as a producer for the film. Meanwhile, her co-stars, Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera, received nods for Best Supporting Actor and Actress, respectively.

In a recent SAG-AFTRA discussion, the Wolf of Wall Street actress addressed the snub and expressed gratitude by stating, “There’s no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed.”

However, she also supported Greta, acknowledging, “What she did is a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing. What she pulled off, it really is.”

Sultry in Gold Thierry Mugler Mini-Dress at Vanity Fair Oscar Party

After the curtain fell on the Oscars, the star-studded procession continued at the legendary Vanity Fair Oscar Party, held at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, California.

A-list celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Sydney Sweeney, and Emily Ratajkowski attended.

Amidst the glamorous crowd, Margot Robbie commanded attention in a resplendent vintage gold mini-dress from Thierry Mugler’s Spring/Summer 1996 collection, marking yet another departure from her customary Barbiecore aesthetic.

I find her choice of attire for the after-party quite captivating. It serves as a delightful inspiration for achieving the perfect party glam to complement any warm-toned ensemble for the spring/summer season.

The Details: Robbie’s Party Look from Mugler to Manolo Blahnik

Her tiny outfit boasted a strikingly short corset that elegantly cinched her waist, adorned with dazzling jewels and sequins. In contrast, the hem was decorated with intricate beaded fringe.

Collaborating with stylist Andrew Mukamal, she gracefully draped a silky bronze robe over her ensemble, almost like a shawl enveloping her back and elbows.

Opting to forgo pants, Margot flaunted her enviable legs in gold Manolo Blahnik Custom Crisspi sandal heels featuring delicate crisscrossing ankle straps.

Consistency was key in her beauty look, as she chose to wear her blonde tresses cascading down.
