Across a series of New York outings in late May and early June 2021, Irina Shayk demonstrated the footwear formula that has come to define her off-duty style: sculptural boots, chunky soles, and utilitarian silhouettes paired with everything from body-conscious dresses to relaxed denim and sweats.

Whether picking up her daughter in Chelsea, strolling through Manhattan in vintage-inspired separates, or experimenting with contemporary runway pieces, Shayk consistently used shoes as the anchor of each outfit. Combat boots, lug-soled summer styles, heritage lace-ups, and retro sneakers transformed otherwise familiar looks into distinctive street-style moments.

These looks also capture a distinct moment in fashion history. By 2021, fashion was shifting toward heavier footwear, utilitarian silhouettes, and comfort-driven dressing that still felt directional. Shayk adopted that formula earlier and more consistently than many of her contemporaries, building outfits around combat boots, lug soles, and technical sneakers rather than treating shoes as an afterthought.

Mugler Tailoring and Both Gao Combat Boots Define Irina Shayk’s Chelsea Uniform

Shayk’s affinity for oversized soles was already well established by summer 2021, and nowhere was it more apparent than in this Mugler look, where sharply sculpted tailoring met one of her most frequently worn boot silhouettes.

Picking up her daughter Lea from school, the Russian model put on a stylish display in a black-and-white ensemble from the French fashion label Mugler.

Showing off her enviable figure, Irina wore a black bodysuit featuring an asymmetric neckline and a cleavage-baring cutout.

She paired the fitted number with black-and-white high-rise slim pants, which she initially modeled on the Mugler Spring 2021 runway in March.

These jeans have strategically placed spiraling black panels that resemble a thong silhouette on the backside.

Continuing the fashion-forward look, the supermodel accessorized with mismatched Chrome Hearts earrings. She carried her stuff in a white Burberry Olympia bag that features a curved silhouette and a chunky silver chain-link shoulder strap.

The model then wore her tresses down, covering her face with a black face mask and a pair of Illesteva East Houston sunglasses.

To complete the edgy look, Irina slipped into a pair of Both “Gao” black leather combat boots. They are crafted from Spazzolato leather and have chunky split rubber outsoles.

She also styled the same boots with slouchy low-rise jeans and a retro-inspired Chrome Hearts minidress.

The choice of footwear reflected broader trends emerging at the time. Both was still a relatively niche label in 2021, but its Gao line attracted attention for its combination of glossy Spazzolato leather, industrial rubber tooling, and exaggerated proportions.

The silhouette fit neatly within the oversized sole movement that defined much of early-2020s footwear, while the Burberry Olympia bag serves as a reminder of Riccardo Tisci’s influential period at the British house.

A Vintage Britney Spears Tee Finds Its Footing With Dr. Martens 1460 Boots

From futuristic Mugler tailoring, Shayk pivoted toward nostalgia, proving that the same heavy-footwear philosophy worked just as well with distressed denim and vintage music memorabilia.

Elevating her casual outfit, Irina styled her look with drop earrings, acrylic rings, and several gold pendant necklaces.

She furthered the ‘90s vibe of her look with a pink “Rachel” shoulder bag from celebrity-favorite accessories brand By Far and a pair of Chrome Hearts retro oval-framed sunglasses.

Completing the edginess of her vintage outfit, Irina wore the iconic Dr. Martens 1460 boots, which she previously also styled with a bubblegum pink suit from Hugo Boss.

Introduced in 1960, the Dr. Martens 1460 remains one of fashion’s most enduring boot designs. Shayk returned to combat-inspired silhouettes repeatedly during this period, suggesting a styling philosophy built around familiar footwear anchors rather than constantly changing seasonal shoes.

Paired with a vintage Britney Spears tee and distressed denim, the boots give the outfit a timeless quality that still feels relevant years later.

Nanushka’s Vegan Leather Mini Dress Meets Tamara Mellon’s Lug-Sole Summer Boots

Shayk also demonstrated how chunky footwear can soften the polished feel of a fitted mini dress, opting for neutral accessories and utilitarian boots with substantial tread.

Bradley Cooper, who joined Irina Shayk and their daughter Lea de Seine for the New York outing, wore a gray Willie Nelson tee with navy jeans and gray sneakers, while Lea donned a pink eyelet-ruffled dress with white stockings and Mary Jane shoes.

Meanwhile, Irina pulled out all the stops as she paraded her model legs in a supple, camel-colored vegan leather mini dress from cult contemporary label Nanushka, featuring a slim fit, a gathered waist, and a buttoned front.

Irina amped up her chic outfit with a Jennifer Zeuner Nameplate necklace, a Jennifer Meyer white-gold channel-set diamond baguette cross necklace, and mismatched Chrome Hearts earrings.

She looked hot with her loose brunette tresses and neutral makeup, keeping her eyes hidden behind a pair of Celine “Tilda” sunnies.

Continuing with the neutral theme of her look, Irina carried a $2,090 Burberry Olympia bag in sand color and slipped into a pair of chunky beige boots from her exclusive collaboration with Tamara Mellon.

Called “Escape,” these boots retailed for $895 and featured a slouchy knee-high silhouette with about 1.4-inch heels and lug soles.

The collaboration reflected a broader industry movement toward practical luxury. Nanushka had become synonymous with elevated vegan leather, while Shayk’s Tamara Mellon capsule emphasized versatility, comfort, and substantial tread.

At the time, pairing lug-soled boots with dresses still felt relatively directional, but the combination would become increasingly commonplace in the years that followed.

032C Acid-Wash Sweats and Adidas FYW S-97 Sneakers Reinvent Off-Duty Dressing

Even Shayk’s most relaxed outfits retained a considered footwear element. An acid-washed sweatsuit became more intentional through the addition of technical sneakers and contrasting accessories.

For their afternoon walk, the Russian model wore a sweatsuit from the culture magazine and fashion brand 032C.

It included a Systeme de la Mode System black acid-washed crewneck sweater and matching Hypnos acid-washed track pants, both featuring UV-sensitive prints that change from gray to mint green when exposed.

Allowing her tresses to fall freely around her shoulders, Irina kept a low profile with Roberi & Fraud Black Baby Betty sunglasses and a Barriere basketweave face mask.

She then elevated her relaxed look with Chrome Hearts Plus hoop earrings and a personalized Lana Bar necklace from Made by Mary.

The former Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model contrasted her dark outfit with white 032C socks, a white Hermès 40cm Birkin bag, and Adidas Original Fyw S-97 white shoes.

A fresh take on the 1997 Equipment Salvation, these shoes feature a synthetic suede-and-mesh upper, chunky molded EVA midsoles, and a built-in Stabilizing Torsion System.

The Adidas FYW S-97 belonged to a wave of late-2010s technical running revivals inspired by archival performance models such as the 1997 Equipment Salvation. Featuring Feet You Wear architecture, Torsion support, and sculpted EVA tooling, the silhouette embodied the performance-driven aesthetic that defined much of the chunky sneaker era.

Although fashion has since gravitated toward slimmer retro runners, the FYW line has retained a niche following among collectors. As of June 2026, StockX listings show the adidas FYW S-97 White Navy Red with a lowest ask of $88 in CM 30, the FYW S-97 Ivy Red at $101, and the collaborative FYW S-97 Salvation 032c commanding a higher $168 ask, illustrating continued interest in the model despite its discontinued status.

Charlotte Knowles Dresses and Bottega Veneta Storm Boots Capture Peak 2021 Street Style

Perhaps the clearest example of Shayk’s styling approach came through her pairing of a fitted printed dress with heavy Chelsea boots, a combination she has revisited repeatedly throughout her street-style evolution.

Her Orange Vortex dress featured a swirl graphic pattern in off-white, yellow, and orange tones. It also had a scoop neckline, adjustable elasticized shoulder straps, and a racerback.

Giving the sexy frock a street-chic appeal, she teamed it with a long black nylon parka from 032C and a pair of $1,150 Storm leather Chelsea boots from Bottega Veneta.

First seen on the F/W 2019 runway, these supple leather boots feature a quilted upper with round toes, 1-inch platforms, and about 2-inch chunky heels.

Proving she’s the ultimate cool mom, Irina styled her hair in cornrows with pigtail braids. She then hid her beauty underneath a $195 Versace Medusa-print face mask and a pair of Poppy Lissiman Courtney sunglasses.

Carrying her favorite By Far Ami bag, Irina rounded out her look with several pieces of jewelry, including a pair of Jennifer Zeuner Mariah Huggies earrings, a Chrome Heart earring, a Jennifer Zeuner Theresa Cross necklace, a Jennifer Meyer white gold Channel Set Diamond Baguette Cross necklace, and a couple of Bonbonwhimclub yellow rainbow lucky rings.

Viewed in hindsight, this may be the most representative look of the group. Charlotte Knowles helped define the body-conscious aesthetic associated with the Y2K revival, while Daniel Lee-era Bottega Veneta played a major role in popularizing oversized luxury footwear. Together, they encapsulate a period when fitted silhouettes were frequently balanced with heavy boots and utilitarian proportions.

Interest in Daniel Lee’s Bottega Veneta designs has extended into the resale market. As of June 2026, StockX shows the women’s Storm Moulded Toe Leather Chelsea Boot in black with a lowest ask of $343, while scarcer versions trade at far higher levels: the Storm Chelsea Boots in brown carry a $1,999 ask, the Storm High Boots in brown reach $3,029, and the black Storm Boots climb to $3,715. The figures underscore the enduring appeal of the chunky, utilitarian footwear that defined much of Bottega Veneta’s early-2020s output.

A Bubblegum Pink Hugo Boss Suit Gets Grounded by Dr. Martens 1460 Boots

Irina Shayk turned heads in a three-piece spring-perfect ensemble while out to pick up her daughter, Lea, from school and to meet her friend, Eli Mizrahi, the Lebanon-born founder of luxury high-fashion brand Mônot.

Opting for one of the season’s hottest colors, the Russian model donned a bubblegum pink suit from the German luxury fashion house Hugo Boss.

Her boss-lady outfit included a double-breasted jacket in crinkle crepe and coordinating wide-leg trousers. Underneath her power suit, Irina wore a long-sleeved shirt in a matching Barbie pink color, also from Hugo Boss.

Not one to shy away from accessories, she accessorized with hoop earrings, a horizontal cross pendant, a Jennifer Zeuner chain necklace, and a Jennifer Meyer Yellow Gold & Diamond M pendant necklace. The sideways cross is considered a symbol of Jesus achieving the salvation of his people.

Mixing black and pink, Irina further accessorized with black Givenchy “Anima” pierced sunglasses and a black Barriere basketweave face mask.

For her shoes, Irina slipped into a pair of Dr. Martens 1460 chunky boots that you can buy at Nordstrom. Featuring Doc’s DNA, these classic leather boots have visible yellow stitching, grooved sides, heel loops, and an 8-eye front design.

How Irina Shayk Turned Combat Boots, Lug Soles, and Sneakers Into a Signature Style Code

Viewed together, these New York appearances reveal a styling approach that has remained central to Irina Shayk’s street style for years. Whether wearing Mugler tailoring, vintage band tees, contemporary knit dresses, or relaxed sweats, she consistently relies on substantial footwear to shape the overall silhouette.

Combat boots, lug soles, technical sneakers, and oversized Chelsea boots add structure, contrast, and practicality, giving even her most polished outfits an effortless off-duty edge.

That balance between refined clothing and grounded footwear explains why these looks continue to feel relevant long after they were photographed. Rather than chasing short-lived trends, Shayk has developed a recognizable vocabulary of boots and sneakers that works across seasons, proving that great street style is often built around a handful of dependable shoe silhouettes.
