On Monday night, March 4, Katie Holmes returned to the red carpet alongside Rose Byrne to show her support for the performing arts at the Roundabout Theatre Company’s 2024 Gala at New York City’s Ziegfeld Ballroom.

The 45-year-old American actress was draped in a striking, long, black, double-breasted coat, a piece she gracefully shed to step onto the red carpet.

While some might consider her attire too simple for such a glamorous event, I find Katie’s choice to embody quiet elegance quite admirable. She proves that bold dresses aren’t always necessary to make a lasting impression and a fashion statement.

Timeless Little Black Dress and Whimsical Footwear

For the occasion, the Alone Together star selected a timeless little black dress from Brandon Maxwell’s Pre-Fall 2024 collection, reaffirming the enduring appeal of LBDs.

I’m drawn to the simplicity and elegance of the Frida maxi dress, particularly the silk-crepe fabric utilized. Valued at $2,495, her ensemble boasted a sleeveless silhouette, allowing her to showcase her toned arms, with convenient pockets on the sides where Katie elegantly slid her hands.

Despite my reservations about the subtle draped detailing, she exuded timeless elegance with her ensemble cascading in soft, slouchy layers from her neck to her waist.

A Touch of Understated Elegance

Although somewhat unexpected, I admire how she introduced a subtle color contrast to her predominantly black ensemble with her footwear choice – a pair of floral Barbie shoes.

The Giver actress complemented the glamorous column dress with $1,120 black suede Magda Butrym heels adorned with a fixed large cream camellia at the front, a significant season trend. You can buy her floral-appliqué satin peep-toe pumps at Mytheresa.

Crafted in Italy, these flower peep toe mules boasted a 105mm heel, providing both elevation and a boost to her height.

Complementary Accessories and Effortless Beauty

Considering Katie Holmes’ mastery of understated elegance, one might expect her to opt for bold and attention-grabbing accessories. However, I appreciate her choice to enhance her look with equally chic and subtle jewelry.

She adorned herself with dangling elongated gold and diamond hoop earrings by Ara Vartanian, complemented by smaller hoops and studs, alongside a delicate thin diamond and gold bracelet adorning her right wrist.

Adding to her ensemble, the Touched With Fire star adorned several gold rings by Ara Vartanian and a Heloise & Abelard Bague Giselle Tourmaline Et Diamants ring.

Her brown hair cascaded down in a middle-parting straight hairstyle, with some strands tucked neatly behind her ears, framing her face beautifully.

As for makeup, she opted for a soft and natural look, featuring light blush, dark pink lipstick, and shimmering silver eyeshadow.

Sultry and Elegant in Semi-Sheer Attire at Michael Kors Collection Show

Katie Holmes’s presence at the Roundabout Theatre Company Gala isn’t her only recent black-and-white ensemble. A few weeks prior, on February 13, during New York Fashion Week, she showcased a similar styling approach at the Michael Kors Fall-Winter 2024-2025 show.

It was a moment where Katie again demonstrated her knack for making a statement with timeless pieces. I admire how she effortlessly embraced the sheer trend, incorporating semi-sheer lace elements from Michael Kors’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection.

Seated among Blake Lively and Gabrielle Union in the front row, The Decision actress exuded sultriness in an $890 black stretch Chantilly lace bodysuit. I love how it seamlessly hugs her form, boasting a high neckline and long sleeves elegantly layered over a black lace bralette.

She completed her ensemble and paired the lacy top with a $2,690 Michael Kors Collection tiered Chantilly maxi skirt, adding a touch of allure with high-waisted underwear for a teasing lingerie moment.

Katie’s choice of outerwear caught my eye – a $2,290 Michael Kors Collection boyfriend oversized crepe blazer. The single-breasted silhouette and the blazer’s peaked lapels provided warmth and sophistication.

At the same time, its boxy, relaxed fit harmonized perfectly with her form-fitting evening wear, enhancing the overall elegance of her look.

The Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark star chose white strappy sandals with open toes to inject color into her predominantly black ensemble while maintaining the sleek monochrome aesthetic.

It’s a subtle yet effective choice to elevate her look with a hint of contrast. Given the cohesion of her outfit, I wouldn’t be surprised if these sandals were also from Michael Kors.

Matching her shoes, Katie accessorized them with a white and gold Michael Kors Collection Tina small leather minaudiere, which she held in her hand.

She adorned herself with an array of gold jewelry, perfectly complementing the gold detailing of her clutch. Her accessory selection included a pair of Ashaha Mono Candice earrings and Modern Moghul Tanika earrings, along with several rings such as the Ashaha Mia ring, Ashaha Dihya ring, and Ashaha Shiraz Rainbow ring.

Completing her glam, Katie styled her hair in loose waves, cascading down effortlessly. She opted for a swipe of bright red lipstick to elevate her ensemble with a bold and captivating finish.

Daring and Chic in Colorful Ensemble at Alice + Olivia Show

On February 10, Katie Holmes made a bold statement at Stacey Bendet’s Alice + Olivia Fall/Winter 2024-2025 presentation at Chelsea’s Highline Stages.

Embracing an unconventional approach to fashion, she arrived to view the New York-based brand’s new collection in a daring ensemble of eclectic separates.

Diverging from the usual flowy satin, the Dead Accounts star opted for double denim and intricate layering, showcasing her unique style.

Although each aspect of Katie’s attire may seem ordinary, the combination creates an enticing juxtaposition of styles. Still, with meticulous curation, her ensemble illustrates that incorporating personal flair into one’s attire can lead to striking fashion success.

The Woman In Gold actress’ chic ensemble comprised a light-wash denim button-up shirt skillfully layered over a black high-neck tank top.

Adding an extra layer of sophistication, she donned a cropped, fitted beige blazer adorned with a dramatic collar and oversized lapels. Katie scrunched up the blazer’s sleeves to three-quarters length for added flair.

She completed her look and tucked her shirt into a pair of low-waisted, wide-leg jeans in a deeper hue, effortlessly blending different denim tones for a striking effect.

For more twist to her ensemble, Katie chose to pair black leather strappy square-toe sandals with sheer bright fuchsia ankle socks, injecting a vibrant pop of color into her look.

She added some final touches to complete her outfit, including a small crisp white leather top-handle bag, a delicate gold chain necklace, and small hoop earrings.

For her glam, Katie chose a pinky blush, champagne eyeshadow, and a shimmery brown-pink lip. Her rich brown locks cascaded down straight, adding to her chic appearance.
