Before the after-parties began, Lady Gaga delivered one of the 2022 Oscars’ most memorable on-stage moments — and did it in impeccable style. Dressed in a custom Ralph Lauren liquid lamé tuxedo jumpsuit, the multi-hyphenate star reinterpreted classic menswear through a glamorous, high-shine lens.
The look was completed with Jimmy Choo “Romy” pumps, a Tiffany & Co. platinum-and-diamond necklace and earrings, and her signature sleek updo.

The Enduring Allure of Jimmy Choo’s “Romy” Pump

With its perfectly pointed toe, slender stiletto, and ability to move effortlessly from daytime sophistication to red carpet glamour, the Romy remains one of the brand’s most popular and reinterpreted designs. What are the Oscars without the after-parties — and the unforgettable fashion that comes with them? Even when the heels aren’t visible, the fashion still captivates — as proved by Lady Gaga, who attended in a sweeping Rodarte gown that concealed her shoes but still reflected her well-known love of sky-high heels and dramatic Versace-inspired glamour.
Now that we’ve moved past Will Smith’s “float like a butterfly, sting like a bee” moment and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s daring gown, it’s time to revisit one of Hollywood’s most stylish annual events: the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s 30th Annual Academy Awards Viewing Party — a night that delivered red-carpet glamour, statement heels, and couture looks worthy of the Oscars themselves.
The evening delivered plenty of major fashion moments, including an appearance by Donatella Versace herself. Lady Gaga is one of Versace’s most loyal and devoted celebrity fans, having worn the designer for numerous high-profile events—including a bold, vintage-inspired look for the 2016 Met Gala—and even writing the song “Donatella” as an ode to the fashion house. She wore another memorable Versace outfit when visiting the Musée du Louvre in January 2014.

Sadly, for the first time, Elton did not attend. During an interview with Good Morning America, Elton said, “It breaks my heart, but I can’t be there, because it’s an event that means so much to us.”

Instead of attending, Elton performed at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska, as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour.
The red carpet moments at this famous event are no less spectacular than those of the awards ceremony, with over 150 celebrities being spotted on the foundation’s red carpet.
David Furnish and Lady Gaga, who perfectly stood in for Elton John, co-hosted the event. Lady Gaga looked incredible in her pale yellow, strapless, tulle Rodarte ball gown.

Her look was completed with an elegant updo, a dazzling diamond necklace, and her signature red lipstick — and while her shoes weren’t visible beneath the voluminous gown, the 5 feet 1¼-inch (155.6 cm) star, who wears a petite US size 6, is rarely without sky-high heels to elevate her statuesque presence.
Other Celebrities Who Dazzled in Rodarte and Designer Heels
Although Gaga’s shoes were hidden beneath her voluminous tulle gown, her partnership with Rodarte places her among a stylish lineup of stars who’ve worn the label’s dreamy couture creations — often paired with equally striking heels. Explore more standout Rodarte moments below.

Several years before her elegant Rodarte ball gown at Elton John’s Oscars party, Lady Gaga showcased her avant-garde fashion sensibility in Paris.
While visiting the Musée du Louvre in January 2014, the singer and style icon wore a vintage Gianni Versace jumpsuit featuring a glammed-up argyle pattern.

Lady Gaga paired the outfit, or shall we say costume, with the huge high-heeled shoes that we’ve seen her wear many times before.

Her jumpsuit was fully embroidered with crystals, but the metallic silver dreadlocks received the most attention, as some fashion critics found them offensive.

The then 27-year-old later met with designer Azzedine Alaïa to view his exhibit at Jeu de Paume, an arts center for modern and postmodern photography and media.
