In one of the most talked-about moments of Milan Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2017, Jeremy Scott redefined runway shock value with his unapologetically bold “trash chic” collection for Moschino. Turning everyday waste into wearable art, Scott took Franco Moschino’s rebellious spirit to new heights, reminding us that fashion, at its core, is both spectacle and satire.
As the brand’s founder once declared, “Good taste doesn’t exist. It is our taste. We have to be proud of it.” That radical ethos pulsed through every look of the show, from bubble wrap gowns to duct-tape dresses, cementing Moschino’s status as a house unafraid to challenge convention.
Runway Highlights: From Cardboard Couture to Bubble Wrap Gowns
Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid started the show dressed in “cardboard couture,” featuring jackets, dresses, and bags adorned with striped patterns made from packing tape and bearing shipping labels such as “fragile,” “do not crush,” and “this side up.”

The show’s second part featured clothing articles printed as if they were made out of pages torn out of fashion magazines. It’s not a new concept by any means, but it did tie up with the collection’s garbage theme.
The third act, and the most exciting part, was the trashiest of all. Models dressed in plastic bags with their arms through the handles. They also wore duct-tape dresses, leather opera gloves, wired-together metal watches, and draped bubble wrap.

A mini trash can, a roll of tissue, and a missing sock were used as handbags. Accessories were junk, such as a garbage can lid hat, a bicycle wheel headband, and a fur stole made from stuffed rats.
Fashion That Pushes Boundaries: Jeremy Scott’s Legacy at Moschino
Jeremy Scott might be the first designer to send a model down the runway wearing a literal pile of trash, but in true Moschino fashion, there’s more than meets the eye. Scott’s work aligns with Franco Moschino’s belief that fashion is a ‘visual impression’ rather than a craft meant to be taken too seriously.

Moschino himself once dismissed the traditional role of a designer, saying, ‘I don’t say I create. I copy, of course… Fashion is a visual impression.’ This Fall 2017 collection echoed that philosophy, elevating disposable materials into an ironic, high-fashion spectacle.

He also dressed a model in a dry cleaning bag — complete with a hanger — and another in shower curtains paired with a bath mat shawl in the same fashion show.

While we love Jeremy Scott’s message of recycling behind his trash-inspired collection, we think only the likes of Katy Perry could pull it off.

But it wasn’t just the outfits that made headlines—one of the biggest moments came when Gigi Hadid nearly took a tumble on the runway.
Gigi Hadid Stumbles in Red Velvet Heels at Moschino Fall 2017 Show
High heels prove perilous once again! Gigi Hadid narrowly avoided a full-on tumble at the Moschino Fall 2017 fashion show when her stiletto snagged on the fringed hem of her vibrant red-and-blue gown.
The supermodel managed to regain her balance and complete her walk with poise, but not before an awkward ankle twist and a few unsteady, almost horse-like steps as she worked to free her heel from the rebellious fabric.
This isn’t Gigi’s first fashion show fiasco. The older Hadid sister also suffered an embarrassing nip slip at the Versace Fall 2016 fashion show, nearly on the same day in February 2016.
Wardrobe malfunction aside, Gigi should consider herself lucky to have been given a long, patterned gown to wear.
Other models were dressed in cardboard boxes, plastic bags, and literal piles of garbage, considering a portion of the show was themed around trash.

Franco Moschino once boldly declared, “I don’t say I create. I copy, of course… Fashion is a visual impression. This is why I often refuse the name of fashion designer. It’s a superficial, stupid job. The social-psychological aspect is more interesting.”
This unapologetically irreverent viewpoint not only defined his design ethos but also laid the foundation for a fashion house built on irony, commentary, and visual spectacle.

Founded in 1983, Moschino is an Italian luxury fashion brand renowned for its playful, rebellious, and often satirical approach to design. From pop art prints and parody logos to surreal silhouettes, the brand blends high fashion with humor and social commentary.
Over the years, Moschino has expanded into multiple lines, including the avant-garde main line, the quirky Moschino Cheap & Chic, and the youthful Love Moschino. Since Franco Moschino’s untimely death in 1994, the brand has continued pushing boundaries under creative directors like Jeremy Scott, who amplified its eccentricity through collections inspired by Barbie, McDonald’s, and even bubble wrap.
Now part of the Aeffe Group, Moschino remains a staple on both red carpets and runways, known for sparking conversation as much as admiration. It’s no surprise that the brand has cultivated a loyal celebrity following—stars drawn to Moschino’s fearless creativity and maximalist flair. From couture wrapped in satire to whimsical accessories with edge, here are some of the boldest celebrity moments that celebrate the house’s enduring impact on pop culture and style.
