Olivia Wilde and Margaret Zhang were twinning at the 2023 Met Gala, as they both showed up wearing the same Violin dress!
While the Don’t Worry Darling director wore a modern reinterpretation of Karl Lagerfeld’s Chloé dress in white, Margaret Zhang wore it in the original black.
The Vogue China editor stuck close to the original design, which hailed from Chloé’s Spring 1983 collection inspired entirely by music.

They had the same idea and turned the original cocktail dress into a floor-length one, but Zhang’s had gold embellishments on the hem that matched the glittering gold violin panel in the center.
While Wilde had the gold Wonder Woman-esque arm cuffs and the original design had gloves, Zhang opted for none but added a flowing cape instead.

Jason Sudeikis’ ex-fiancée had her blonde hair cascading in soft glam waves. At the same time, the 29-year-old editor took an edgier approach with electric blue hair and a pair of dark sunglasses reminiscent of Karl Lagerfeld’s favorite accessory.
As for their choice of footwear, we couldn’t see Olivia Wilde’s shoes due to the length of her dress, but they were most likely gold platform heels. Margaret Zhang, for her part, slipped on a pair of black platform pumps.

According to the Evening Standard, this is the first time that a fashion faux pas like this happened at the annual star-studded event. But both Olivia Wilde and Margaret Zhang seemed to take it in stride as they took to Instagram to react to their twinning outfits.
Olivia Wilde acknowledged it on her Instagram Story with the caption: “Great minds.” She added, “If you’re gonna twin with anyone, make it @margaretzhang.”
Margaret Zhang also responded by reposting the story and writing, “CUE THE STRINGS.”

The theme for this year’s Met Gala is Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, in honor of the designer, who has worked at several fashion houses such as Chloé, Fendi, Balmain, and Chanel. This year’s official event co-chairs were Roger Federer, Penelope Cruz, Dua Lipa, and Michaela Coel.
Although Olivia Wilde and Margaret Zhang had the same idea, they each added their own personal touch to the iconic garment and confidently ascended the carpeted steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in their own distinct style.
