One of the most iconic frenemy relationships is that of and Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway’s characters in “The Devil Wears Prada.”
But, don’t let the catty on-screen relationship between “Andy” and “Emily” fool you. Anne and Emily are actually fairly good friends in real life.
We’ve been curious as to whether the COVID-19 pandemic has affected this friendship, so we decided to do a quick check-in.
How Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt Became Friends
The two popular actresses became friends while filming “The Devil Wears Prada,” an award-winning romantic comedy that was released in 2006.

In the flick, Emily Blunt played the meticulous and fashion-obsessed senior assistant of Miranda Priestly, the editor-in-chief of a high-profile fashion magazine, played by Meryl Streep.
Anne Hathaway played Andrea Sachs, a young journalist who had recently relocated to New York to pursue her dream career in journalism.

Andy is hired as a junior assistant at the same fashion house as Blunt, which leads to drama and chaos since Anne’s character has no knowledge of fashion.
Emily and Anne’s friendship blossomed both on-screen and off-screen. Both characters became friends by the end of the film, and both actresses remained friends long after the film’s debut.
Sharing the Spotlight Once Again
Emily and Anne both graced the cover of Vanity Fair Magazine’s Hollywood issue in 2008, proving just how strong their friendship is.
“It was a really exciting time. I was also happy,” Anne said. “Emily, we just really bonded on The Devil Wears Prada, so to be there with one of my favorite people that I’ve met at my job, you know, was really special.”

“The Office” star John Krasinski, Emily Blunt’s husband, said he’s also a film of the fan.
In fact, he joked that he only started dating Emily because he couldn’t get to Anne. Nonetheless, he struck gold because they’ve been happily married since 2010.

Career Progression
Emily and Anne’s careers didn’t peak at “The Devil Wears Prada.” Both actresses continue to crank out box office hit after box office hit, pushing their respective film repertoires forward.
Anne has appeared in several Disney films, including both The Princess Diaries and Ella Enchanted.

Meanwhile, Emily Blunt has starred in Disney films such as “Mary Poppins Returns” and “Jungle Cruise,” in addition to her notable performance in “A Quiet Place.”
The Duo Keeps Winning
Both actresses have won a slew of awards during their acting careers. Anne won both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for best actress in a supporting role for her part in “Les Miserables.”

Anne also won the Bafta Award for best actress in a supporting role — in addition to several other awards — for her work on “Les Miserables.” She has also received awards for the film “Rachel Getting Married,” as well as numerous various nominations for other films she’s worked on.
The film “A Quiet Place” earned Emily Blunt the Screen Actors Guide Award for Outstanding Performance. She also won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in “Gideon’s Daughter.”
Emily also received several awards for her work on “Into The Woods” and “Your Sister’s Sister.”
Is the Bond Still Strong?
Most celebrity friendships come with their share of backstabbing and drama, so it’s refreshing to see how positive Anne and Emily’s friendship has been.
Both actresses have shared photos throughout the years of their friendship on social media, proving that they have a happy and successful friendship — both in and out of the spotlight.
Both women have married and had children as well, so we’re sure that the common bond of motherhood keeps each woman grounded.

Emily Blunt’s Life
Emily has been keeping busy the past few years. In addition to all her work we’ve listed above, the actress also starred in the 2014 American science fiction action film “Edge of Tomorrow” alongside Tom Cruise.

Emily took a slight break from the spotlight in March of 2016, when she was pregnant with her second child.
She stepped away from her work for a bit to focus on her doting husband John Krasinski, attending the opening night party of his off-Broadway play “Dry Powder” held in New York.
The very pregnant actress wore a gray knit dress by Designers Remix, which she layered underneath a full coat.

Emily styled her maternity wear with some jewelry by American jewelry designer Jennifer Fisher, black tights, and a pair of black suede Aquazzura “Holli” pumps.
The soon-to-be-mom-of-two kept her makeup natural and fresh, matching it with loosely blow-dried hair.

Emily and John were all smiles and PDA on the carpet of the premiere. John took a moment to bend forward and whisper something in his wife’s ear, making her smile.

A few weeks back, John uploaded a photo of himself in front of The Public Theatre, right before the first preview of “Dry Powder” ahead of its official opening night.
