Emma Stone’s distinctively raspy voice has become as much a part of her screen presence as her classic approach to style. While her vocal tone is a professional trademark, its origin is rooted in a physical struggle from her infancy.

In June 2016, Stone was photographed in New York City wearing a look that remains a study in balancing structured outerwear with evening silhouettes.

“I smoked when I was four,” she joked in an interview with Now Toronto in 2011. “No, I had colic from zero to six months. My mom dealt with a screaming baby 24 hours a day… I screamed myself hoarse every day and developed nodules as an infant.” According to the Mayo Clinic, colic is characterized by frequent, intense crying in an otherwise healthy infant.

The resulting calluses on her vocal cords make her voice prone to fatigue. “I’ve sounded like this since I was a kid,” she told The Mirror. “Nobody’s ever really said I was getting a part because of my voice, but it’s the only one I’ve got so I’m sticking with it!”

Director Tate Taylor recalled that this unique quality was exactly what he wanted when casting her as Skeeter Phelan in The Help. “Emma was completely awkward and dorky, with her raspy voice,” he told EW.

While her voice commands attention on screen, her off-duty style is equally distinctive—marked by a preference for classic silhouettes and high-end craftsmanship.

The House Bunny actress opted for an ankle-length navy dress featuring a thigh-high split. She balanced the exposure of the slit by layering a classic nude trench coat over the dress.

Stone paired the look with simple gold jewelry, a beige leather Gucci Jackie bag, and black Manolo Blahnik “Lauratopri” sandals—echoing her continued preference for the brand’s clean, leg-lengthening silhouettes, as seen in her later appearances in sleek Manolo styles like the minimalist “Leva” on the festival circuit.

The Gucci “Jackie” purse, renowned for its distinctive, structured shape and piston-strap closure, is available in six styles, ranging from a simple nude to exotic python finishes.

Her blonde locks were styled in a chic updo, and her makeup was kept minimal, with soft blush, eyeshadow, and a swipe of pink lipstick.

Elevating Her Look: Manolo Blahnik’s Signature Sandals

Called the “Lauratopri,” Emma’s sandals reflect Manolo Blahnik’s mid-2010s minimalist-luxe era—an ankle-strap d’Orsay design defined by a clean, wide toe band and a slender strap, set on a sculptural ~105mm curved stiletto that adds both height and subtle stability, making it a quiet red-carpet favorite also seen on Kirsten Dunst during the same period.
