On May 1, 2017, Jennifer Lopez attended the Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City alongside Alex Rodriguez.

The evening celebrated Rei Kawakubo and Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between, with fellow attendees including Solange Knowles, Kim Kardashian, La La Anthony, Celine Dion, Blake Lively, Katy Perry, Priyanka Chopra, Kendall Jenner, Zendaya, Madonna, Bella Hadid, and Rihanna.

Rather than embracing one of her signature body-conscious silhouettes, Lopez opted for a custom pale blue Valentino Spring 2017 Haute Couture gown featuring a high neckline, sheer details, a flowing cape, and a loose 1960s-inspired caftan silhouette with an extended train.

The covered-up look stood apart from many of her previous red-carpet appearances and complemented the evening’s avant-garde theme.

She completed the ensemble with vintage-inspired Harry Winston diamond jewelry, including oversized hoop earrings dating to 1963, a shimmering Judith Leiber Couture clutch, and Giuseppe Zanotti Amelia velvet platform sandals in metallic silver and beige.

Mostly concealed beneath the sweeping hemline, the platforms added subtle height and shimmer while maintaining the soft, monochromatic palette of the Valentino couture look.

Although rarely visible in photographs, Lopez’s choice of footwear reinforced the polished mood of the outfit.

Giuseppe Zanotti’s Amelia platform sandals combined velvet textures with metallic finishes, a signature approach for the Italian luxury label’s evening designs.

The neutral silver-beige tones worked seamlessly with the icy blue gown, proving that even hidden red-carpet shoes can play an important role in balancing proportion, movement, and overall styling.

Although the Amelia style is no longer widely available, the design reflected the Italian label’s longstanding affinity for elevated evening footwear featuring platforms, metallic finishes, and dramatic proportions.

As of June 2026, Farfetch continues to stock contemporary Giuseppe Zanotti platform styles that capture a similar red-carpet sensibility, including the Betty 120 platform sandals, Tarifa platform sandals, Isadhora platform sandals, Judith 120 sandals, Sylvy satin platforms, and crystal-embellished GZ Aida designs.

How Jennifer Lopez’s Hidden Giuseppe Zanotti Platforms Completed the Look

Lopez’s pale blue Valentino gown may have carried the drama, but her concealed Giuseppe Zanotti platforms helped shape the final silhouette.

The metallic finish tied back to her Harry Winston diamonds and Judith Leiber clutch, while the platform construction added height beneath the sweeping train without interrupting the gown’s soft movement.

It was a quiet footwear choice by Met Gala standards, but still very much in line with Lopez’s long-running preference for glamorous, height-boosting Zanotti heels.
