She gained fame after finishing as the first runner-up in the Miss USA pageant and coming in sixth in the Miss World 1986.

Having won several beauty contests, such as Miss Teen All-American and Miss Ohio, Halle Berry became the first black woman to represent the US in the Miss World competition held in London in 1986.

However, after a modeling stint in Chicago, Berry realized her true passion was acting and that her height was too short for modeling. She decided to move to New York to pursue her dream.

Halle Berry acknowledged in an interview with The Voice in 2000 that her height was not ideal for becoming a supermodel, saying, “I’m 5’5″, so I was never gonna be a supermodel.”

Her breakout role came in the romantic comedy Boomerang (1992), and she became one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood during the 2000s.

Berry won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Monster’s Ball (2001), becoming the first Black woman to win the award.

She has since taken on high-profile roles, including in the X-Men film series, Die Another Day (2002) and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019), and made her directorial debut with the Netflix drama Bruised (2020).
