Nothing says “like mother, like son” better than Madonna and David Banda turning heads in matching stripes. Seeing him sick with malaria and pneumonia at an orphanage, Madonna adopted David from Malawi in October 2006.

The pair watched the Davis vs. Romero WBA World Lightweight Championship match in Brooklyn on May 28 while coordinating in luxe sportswear.

Madonna posted a series of photos on Instagram that displayed their show-stopping outfits.

The 16-year-old proudly walked hand-in-hand with his mother while clad in a bold red dress. He wore a piece from the Adidas x Gucci collection, paying homage to his superstar mom’s 90s fashion.

It featured a deep V-shaped neckline, mid-length sleeves, and an ankle-length hem. His dress also had a high slit and the signature Adidas stripes.

David styled it with a pair of black sock boots from Adidas. He also wore yellow square-framed sunglasses and an assortment of silver chains. To finish off his look, he carried a black bag with “MADAME X” in white lettering on the strap.

Gucci called it “a past-meets-present moment,” adding that it was his mother’s 1993 dress that inspired the collection.

The legendary pop star wore the infamous Adidas dress at the “Sleepless in Seattle” premiere in 1993. Laura Whitcomb’s streetwear line, Label, was behind the original collaboration that started a trend.

Meanwhile, Madonna stepped out in an all-black look to accompany his son to the boxing match. She wore an oversized Adidas x Balenciaga tracksuit with a zip-up front and trademark stripes.

The 62-year-old pop icon also wore towering black platform sandals with block heels and cut-out details. In addition, Madonna carried a structured black bag shaped like a boombox from Midnight Studios by Shane Gonzales.

She completed her look with pink-framed shades, wrist-length black gloves, and layers of silver chains and crucifixes.

The mother-and-son duo may be matching, but their individual styles still shone through.

David’s look was a sweet nod to his mom’s 90s style and a bold declaration of his own. He worked that dress as if it was made for him, and his mother’s proud smile was the cherry on top.
