Thanks largely in part to Julianne Moore’s “toemaggedon” and Kim Kardashian’s need to squeeze her pregnancy-swollen feet into high heels, 2013 is now branded as the year of the worst celebrity shoe disasters. And when we think of the most embarrassing, most mortifying, and most uncomfortable ones, there’s no doubt we’ve got to include the time when …
1. Julianne Moore’s pinky toes tried to escape.
It was like Julianne Moore’s pinky toes had a mind of their own. See more pictures of them trying to make a run for it in our previous post, Julianne Moore’s toes commit one of the worst fashion faux pas of all time.
If you think it looks painful, Julianne said in an interview with Jimmy Fallon that she didn’t feel it as it was happening.

2. Kim Kardashian wore cage boots so tight that they left marks on her feet.
Kim apparently loves these Givenchy booties so much that she didn’t care if she had to literally stuff her feet into them.

3. Kim Kardashian, again, stuffed her swollen feet into clear shoes.
You think Kim would’ve learned from the previous incident, but, no, she was back to punishing her poor swollen feet by wearing too tight shoes just barely two weeks later. And she kept doing it throughout her pregnancy, too, which did not earn her any sympathy.

4. Katy Perry had to claw the edge of her sandals with her toes to keep them on.
When you have to spread your toes so that they look like a rake, you know you need to find better ways to keep your shoes from slipping. Too bad, and her “Roar”-themed look was cute, too. See more cute shoes spotted at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards here.

5. Kate Middleton’s heel got stuck in a grate.

6. Jennifer Lawrence attended a red carpet premiere in muddy heels.
Jennifer Lawrence wore these versatile Manolo Blahnik sandals everywhere, outdoor garden party included. We think it’s great that she got a lot of use out of them, but we wish JLaw or her glam squad at least wiped the mud off the heels before she walked the red carpet.

7. Sienna Miller’s Louboutins got ruined by the rain.
It’s such a shame to ruin a $1,095 pair of Christian Louboutins. Like one of you said, for that price, you think they would’ve held up better against the rain. In the picture below, it looks like the glue is seeping out from the soles.

8. Katharine McPhee wore high heels in the sand.
Didn’t anyone tell Katharine McPhee that there was going to be sand at this event? She must’ve been struggling all throughout that evening.

9. Holly Madison’s cracked heels and poodle heels competed for attention.
As many of the members of the Your Next Shoes community have pointed out, it’s difficult to appreciate a pair of beautiful shoes when the wearer’s feet are not up to par. If you just want to admire the shoes and see some cute dogs as well, head over to the post where we first featured Holly Madison in Charlotte Olympia “Cherie” sandals.

10. Aubrey Plaza wore white Louboutins that were way too big for her.
Aubrey Plaza had one of the cutest outfits at the 2013 Critics’ Choice Television Awards, but her pumps just didn’t fit her. If it’s any consolation to her, we think the worst offender of wearing too big shoes remain to be Ashley Olsen at the 2011 Met Gala.

11. Rashida Jones’ pinky toes also tried to make a break for it.
Rashida Jones just could not be contained. She did have some fantastic shoe moments in 2013, though.

12. Lady Gaga completely forgot to wear shoes.
Okay, so it’s part of her act, but walking barefoot in the streets of London? We hope the men around her were there to keep her from walking on anything she shouldn’t.
